The term is acid reflux...and to my knowledge dont eat foods that would inflame the problem and if so it happens becaue we all love certain foods, but take something to help the problem before hand.

I used to use Tums and Rolaids at first.  Then a couple of over the counter meds that didn't help.  Now I'm on 2 prescriptions - Prevacid and Zantac.  They also make over the counter for the Prevacid and Prilosec.  Have you tried either one of those?

If you are struggling and are limited because of allergies (as I am, too) you may want to ask a pharmacist or your doctor, so you can get on something that helps you, yet doesn't interfere with your allergies.  I had to go through several tests, and a lot of mine is because of a hiatal hernia.  I hope you start feeling better with the reflux.  :)

My mom has acid reflux

I feel for her.  It can get so bad at times.  I had a couple of heart tests done yesterday because of some heart flutters and increased reflux pushing through my meds.  I have asthma/chronic bronchitis, and the drs. want to make sure that it is the reflux and asthma/chr. bron. conflicting with each other, and not my heart having issues.  Then they'll know more about which direction to take to help.

I have a couple of suggestions.....

First if you see that you get it more with certain foods you have to stop or slow down eating that type.EX:my wife gets migraines from too much salt so she has to refrain or suffer.

I would always carry something small like Rolaids or Tums and not chew them like candy.Pop em if only u need them.

I have been doing business with a health food company called Purity Products. They are in Long Island,NY.I recommend some of their natural digestive stuff to see if it helps.Pro-biotics are good for you putting good bacteria in the gut that helps the immune system too.

Of course when its chronic a trip to the DR doesnt hurt either. They are supposed to be professionals and help us.

I wish I could stop eating certain foods. that would make things easier. It doesnt matter what I eat it causes it. Does Maylox or Malanta work very well

The best thing I know is Nexium but, you need a prescription for it and most insurance companies won't pay for it because it actually heals the damage done by acid reflux.

TINA....find a good pro-biotic and take it for awhile.Mylanta and Malox are quick fixes but you wanna get to the root.As i said putting good bacteria in the gut might help and it could also strengthen the immune system.

If you fail yourself with remedys dont fool around any longer from not seeing a Dr.

And i also recommend checking Purity Products web-site out and looking into digestive and pro-biotics.

I take Prilosec everyday and that works for me. The best thing to do is to go to a GI doctor and he should lead you in the right direction.

Prilosec works for me too. But sometimes I forget it and when I go to bed at night dinner is knocking, I don't want to get up I am tired so I use mind over matter it does work. I take a deep breath and as I exhale I am thinking down. Literally I feel the acid moving down. This is only a temporary fix, but it works long enough so I can get to sleep and I remember to take it the next morning.
Never give up!!!

I am sorry, if you have acid reflux. I think the best way is to change your diet. Consider eating less acidic food, or food cooked in a lot of oil, fried fast food etc. Eat more fruit & vegetables, have more natural juices, like Carrot. Aloe vera juice is excellent. Hopefully this will start to reduce the reflux.

The general consensus among Dr.'s (MD's and DO's)and ND's who subscribe to a more holistic approach to health believe that acid reflux and heartburn often times results from too little hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Although science has proven this, the the conventional treatment coming from the main medical community  is still to prescribe acid blocking medications which only further the problems and also cause other unwanted side effects.

If you do a quick search with the term "is reflux due to not enough acid"  you will find a full page full of links and a lot of information on how to treat this naturally by increasing the acid and sometimes adding other things like enzymes and probiotics.

Personally, when I am in the middle of an acid reflux attack or severe heartburn, I drink a couple of teaspoons of Bragg's ACV straight (I have found any vinegar works in an emergency though if I am out of Bragg's).  It burns like heck at first but within a minute or two the reflux or heartburn is gone.  Occasionally I may need to repeat the treatment a second time but after that, the symptoms disappear completely.
