do ppl have stocks?

I am only 21 and do not have any stocks i dont have the money to risk but was thinking for a christmas gift to ask for a stock what do you think? not my money and dont know what to ask for anyways .

I've been investing in stocks for over a year now, and I can tell you that it's not for everyone. If you want to have someone buy you stocks for Christmas that's cool, but it needs to be stock in a well established company like G.E. or something that pays a regular dividend. And even then you'll need at least 100 shares to see any kind of real return on your investment. I hope this helps, and good luck.

All of the stocks that I have are in my 401K.  Not something I would pursue outside of that.

Stocks are great and all, but unless you start putting some serious money in them and buy multiple shares, you're unlikely to see any real impact.

Buying multiple shares of an established company that most people would invest in is typically not a cheap thing to do.

Instead of buying individual stocks, have you looked into buying stock mutual funds?  Instead of buying 1 company, you can buy a fund that comprises of many companies. There's a ton out there so make you do your homework.  Check out Vanguard or Fidelity to get some info.

Some people have stock, but most do not because they do not know how the stock market works and will not play Russian roulette with the money they do have.
