Do you believe foreigner are more informed about the issues?
« on: August 14, 2012, 11:41:46 am »
I got into a discussion with a lady that moved to this country some years back. She told me that foreigners and immigrants know more about the issues in America than Americans. I mean political issues. Is this really true?

I think it might be true. When one relocates to a new country one wants to learn all there is to learn about it and this is usually from an unbiased position.

Based upon much of the political/government subject matter posted within these forums, I would have to say YES (and to such a degree that often if they knew nothing they would know more as many Americans seem to  have incorrect facts).
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Hmm, I've been to over a dozen countries and most of the people I've met didn't even know what was happening in their own country much less outside it.  I met a guy who thought it was a good idea to take gasoline and light the tar on the road on fire to create a ditch that would drain water from the sewage filled irrigation system on the other side of the road over to his house for drinking/shower water.

After about an hour of explaining why that would be a bad idea he finally agreed.  =-P  Unfortunately the road was all ready burned.   ;)

There are some cases where college and universities are starting to get fed-up with students lack of effort in class here.  So, they're starting to outsource classes to other countries online where students are willing to put more effort into learning.  It's not as BIG of a problem as businesses who outsource jobs to other countries as of yet though.  Still if it doesn't change we could eventually see more educated people outside the U.S. than in it over the course of a few decades.  I still don't see how that would make them more involved in issues outside their own countries though.  So, to sum up a long answer.  No.
