Hoarders
« on: August 12, 2012, 07:45:55 am »
Who watches the show Hoarders?  I do, just amazes me how people can live like that.  I always though my mom and dad were hoarders, but after watching this show, I realized they were just pack rats.  LOL.

Its funny how people drop one habit just to pick up another...That what I see a lot in this show, they lose a loved one or their kids move out, it is always some form of depression. It is amazing how they can keep sooooooo much stuff and to them its not junk (from what I have seen it is). I guess mine is the opposite because I get rid of stuff when I think I have to much or it is just simply getting on my nerves. I can not stand clutter, if I have not used it in a few months likely chance that it will not get used. Away it goes

Yes I watch that show and it's crazy how some people can live like that.  The episode I remember is when they found some dead cats that the lady said had gone missing years ago they cats were smashed completely flat like what you see in a cartoon.

I do housecleaning for a hoarder lady.....OMW, I really don't know how she can breathe in that house!! It takes me forever just to get her kitchen in some sort of state so that one can actually walk around in it, then my shift is over and next week it is back to the same shambles again. She buys x5 of everything when she goes to the store and leaves all her shopping just inside the front door - still in the shopping bags! Underneath all the clutter is actually a very pleasant house!

I can't even go to sleep at night if my house isn't clean. I just can't imagine how people could live like that. It's not even the actual stuff that gets me.....it's the piles of actual trash that is in there houses.....food wrappers and stuff like that. Seems like laziness that they can't just throw the trash away. When I get too much stuff in closets I start chucking stuff.

I think the most interesting thing about Hoarders is how hard it is for the people to separate from their things. Even the smallest piece of trash has some kind of meaning, and they argue within them selves to throw it away or keep it. Sometimes they keep the most ridiculous items, but to them its a memory of something minor, or they throw the item away and move on and don't seem to dwell.

Letting things get so out on control is just because they can't seem to part with the trash, and they it just accumulates to something worse. I remember hearing stories, of how family members would clean their the place, then when the Hoarder came home from work and saw they clean house they lost it!

I watch Hoarders sometimes. The stories are always so sad. Speaking of Hoarders I really need to pick up my room. I have boxes everywhere...

have never watched the show but have seen clippings of hoarders. I haven't figured out how one can live with all that stuff.

Hubbys aunti was a hoarder. Oh my what a mess. When she wanted to sell her house and move to the same city we were living in we went to move her. What amess. Loaded the truck with the best of stuff and then hired a pro. house cleaner and they wouldn't do it without has. mat. suits. that is how bad it was. $2100.00 later it was done. Sold it the next day. Whew. She had newspapers from 20 years ago and mag. you wouldn't believe. She went into a funk when her father died. So it happens.

I watch it and I can't believe how these people live. I agree that their reason for hoarding, eventhough, they don't see it that way is always because they lost something else in their lives. It's all junk and filth. I don't get it, but these people all need to get pychological help. For the post I just read about the flattened missing cats in one of the shows....omg that is awful and so sad. I'm glad I didn't see that one because it would have broken my heart.
