Women ref in the NFL
« on: August 10, 2012, 09:43:06 pm »
I was reading a news blurp on the upcoming season and they were discussing that there is now a woman referee in the NFL.  What are your thoughts?

Why not?  Women are just as capable of making bad calls as male refs.

That is so cool!  8) and I would say it's about time!  Your post caused me to go look at an article about her. Her name is Shannon Eastin,  she's 42 years old and from Tempe, AZ.  She officiated the Thursday night game between the Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers.  The article said the cap she wore Thursday night will go in the  Pro Football Hall of Fame.  Good for her!

I don't think that is a good idea, she could get in the way and all sorts of things could happen with this.

I don't think it matters what the sex is off a ref in the NFL.  As long as the individual knows the game..the rules and plays fair that's all that's important.  As far as her getting in the way - she's as likely to be in the way as a male ref so what difference does it make?  Putting a woman in shoulder pads as a player is another story all together.  I think one needs to prove oneself to be capable and if she's or he's capable that's all that matters.

WHAT ? ? ? She could GET IN THE WAY??  :bs:

Are you serious......? GET IN THE WAY?  :bs:

Why would "she" get in the way any more than a guy would?  :bs:

Exactly what do YOU think that gender would have to do with this- "getting in the way"-  :bs: (whatever THAT is even supposed to mean).

:angry7: Ridiculous thing to say.

Given "ben's" other myopic posts, it's a good guess "he's" a misogynist fundie xtian whose blind faith gets in the way of reason.

I don't mind at all. Even thou once the regular refs get the deal worked out, she won't be in the NFL anymore!

I would like to see it especially if they wore the little skimpy outfits.  I mean they already have their own football league in the lingerie league, so why not let them ref in the NFL.

I didn't see the game but from the reports I've heard, she did quite well.  Good for her :)

I think it is to bad that the only way they are letting her do it is because they have a lock out going against the other ref's.   (Salary dispute).    It's something that I think should have been done long ago!  In the regular uniform,  LOL

Good for her. There are already female refs in the NBA, so I guess this was going to come too. It should never matter what sex the person is as long as they are capable at their job. As long as she's qualified and knows the game that's all that should matter. And there are good, average, excellent and bad refs in the NFL all male before her entry. If they can be bad or average and male, why not allow her to do the job? She has the right to ref as they were given the chance to do it as well.

I doubt we will ever see a female player, but I am not against that either as long as the person is qualified. I am about qualifications not gender. It just depends on the person and what they can offer in the long run.

I hope she will make a great impact on the league and do well.

She is capable of doing the job.  She has worked her way up through various levels of football to be considered. Hope she is kept when the league reaches and agreement with the officials union.
