Hospice????
« on: July 30, 2012, 03:42:22 am »
My Parents were both on Hospice and I thought the Nurses who came into my home were GREAT. yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine and she was telling me that her friend HATES hospice because she felt they murdered her husband....that statement REALLY bothered me.....I know this is an unsettling topic but has anyone else have/had a family member/friend in/on Hospice? and what was your experience?.......Thank you to all who respond to this

I am around 70 years old so I have had several friends and relatives cared for by Hospice. All have been cared for in a loving manner. However, each person dies in their own way. Sometimes they do not die as we would want them too or as we expected. Some relatives can't accept that.

I had some family members who had hospice.  To me hospice means to get ready to die.

my granny was with hospice care at the very end
and they seemed to be fine. she died in her own home
and they were very supportive... the whole family helped
take care of her as her cancer worsened, so at the end,
everyone really needed a break to finally say goodbye.
i think she was much happier with that than being in the
hospital and so were we
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

My grandpa was on Hospice. Didn't seem to have any issues.

My mother had hospice care last year until she passed away in December. They were very good to her and really helpful to my family after she passed away. I don't know about where you live but the hospice care here offers support services to the families of their patients. They also sponsor a survivors support group. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

My grandmother was on Hospice a month or two before she died from cancer.  I thought the nurses were nice, and I even personally knew one who was the mother of one of my classmates.

cateyes1 ~ My husband was in a rehab. facility when he was knockdown w/mersia. It would have been easy to treat but w/his diabetes, kidney failure,& a triple bypass; his body didn't have the chance to heal!I blame all for his death! From the doctors, nurses, social works, all staff had a hand in his demise. He finally recovered from the mersia so what do they do instead of sending him to a cardiac rehab center they send him to a rehab center where there is no medical monitoring systems like in the hospital! I wanted him out of there & in2 a facility that will treat his pre existing conditions.I should have fought harder to get him out! I don't care how many times they've renamed this facility...the same people work there & the same people kill the patients there!I've a track record of peoples that died there. My Husband's Grandmother,His Mom, & then he went into rapid death mode there! The nurse treating him just stared as he went into shock! She snapped out it after I screamed at her to do something! The staff doing cpr didnt look like they knew what they were doing. I con't understand why there was a group of assistant aides just standing there watching, like it was a movie! As my Husband was dying; They didn't even bother to remove his room mate out!He was in there; force to hear the last gasps & sounds of a dying man! :crybaby2: I plan to inform my Dr.if I get sick, to place me anywhere but that facility!Hospice would have been better! :angry7: My advice 2you, whether, it's hospice, rehab centers or even hospitals.Trust No ONE! You are the #1 protection for your parents.Be assertive, question, question,
question, questions, everything! There's the net, do back ground checks on everyone, back ground checks on the history of the facility they're in. Visit them during different times, don't start a pattern of your visits. Keep them on there toes!Your Parents' lives is in your hands. Don't ever give it away. :peace:

I met a woman a few months ago who is a recently retired hospice nurse.  She loved her career of 35 years, although she is now glad to be retired.  It is a hard career and I'm sure people in the field go through a lot of burnout.  I asked her how she could do something so hard for so many years.  She said to me the hard part was not the patients, as it felt good to help someone who was so in need.  She told me the really hard part was dealing with the families.  Some times grief and denial doesn't bring out the best in people.  I'm sure we can all understand that.  And sometimes people redirect their grief and anxiety on the person who is easiet to blame. I think many times this is the hospice care person.  And CatEyes1 - I'm so sorry to hear about your parents.  :peace:
