The thing about working overtime hours is that after awhile, it's not cost effective to work them since 90% of that money is just being eaten up in taxes.

When it feels more like work than a purpose...when it starts to tire you out physically, emotionally, etc....and I'm not a fan of OT, except for police officers, firemen, etc....people shouldn't be obsessed with making money!

I think it depends on alot of things. If you enjoy your job, its not always a bad thing. If it is inconsistent, its not as bad either. My husband is on constant OT and it gets old. I sure wish it would stop.

Depends on your circumstances.  If you need the money, you take the overtime whenever it is approved.

I think it depends on the stress level of your job.  I'm retired now but my last job was as a customer advocate and I would not work any OT on that job because 8 hrs a day was way too stressful.  However, when OT was offered by a different dept. I would work it as the other dept. did not involve being on the phone but rather doing paper type work.  I could put my earphones on and listen to my cd player when doing work for that dept. so it was kinda enjoyable.

Very true. I also found that I made as much working part time on the weekends (they paid more for weekends) then I did working a normal work week.

I try not to work overtime, taxes get all of it. If i loved my job i would do more.
