I think humid means that there is a lot of water in the air which may be why, the brush can get overally dry then.

How dry it is contributes but they start because of stupid people that don't listen to fire bans and sometimes mother nature herself. I'm in CO just east of the High Park fire, smokey smokey days, ash everywhere, people with major breathing problems etc. Fire is nothing to mess with people so listen to your bans - especially this 4th

I would say campers definitely contribute to it, but in some areas forest fires occur naturally too.

Combustion.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Well probably because you don't have people walking in the woods throwing their cigarettes on the floor thinking nothing will catch.

I think most forest fires are started by people, either by accident or on purpose, but I have heard on the news lately that lightening has caused some of them this year.

People who start fires and forget to put them out have a major role in forest fires. However, it is unlikely that one will start unless it is very dry at that time.

I'm in Denver, and at least the one near Ft. Collins was caused by lightning. It's super dry here so I think it's not that difficult for one to start.

It isn't necessarily that they forget to put them out as much as they don't thoroughly put them out. They may leave camp with a few smoking embers in their fire pit, not thinking that even something as seemingly trivial as that could start a forest fire (or I guess the new PC name is wildfire  ::) ). Lightening is also a major source, esp if it sparks a fire in an area that is not watched as regularly or is difficult for firefighters to contain.

I believe that lightning causes the majority of fires.
