fire alarm test
« on: June 12, 2012, 08:13:20 am »
once a year in our apartment building, the fire department tests the system. The department reps come and test from 9 am too 2pm. It is an  "noisy inconvenience" for safety.  I called a family member and am out of the building for lunch time. The doors to all our hallways close shut and I use a walker; that is difficult too [ to open those heavy doors]. ....better to leave than contend with the noise. ;D

I remember when I was a Cub Scout 60 years ago one of our tasks in our "achievement" book was to organize a fire plan for our home and family. It is one of those things that have stayed with me all these years. I know what needs to be done in case their is a fireso I have a plan. When I check into a hotel or motel I look for the best escape route before I go to bed. If I used a walker or had another disability then I would REALLY want to have a plan and know that the alarm systems work.

I agree that the noise canbe annoying, but I would feel safer knowing that the fire alarms are working.

The tornado sirens for the town were going off earlier. Since it's clear weather, I could only conclude that they were testing. :P Would have been nice to have a heads up posted on the city website or something, but no biggy (pretty obvious it wasn't a "real" alarm after all).
