Activated Charcoal
« on: May 31, 2012, 05:45:29 pm »
Has anyone ever used Activated Charcoal? A coworker of mine suggested that I take it before I go to a birthday event and it would absorb the toxins from any alcohol I drink to help curb any hangover. I've read a number of reviews and it's almost 50/50 on how people feel about it.

I wouldn't risk my health & taking something that's only 50/50 chance of working. Think about the side affects. If it's not FDA approved even if it is I would not take it. The name alone sounds scary! Just go to the party & don't over do it. Take care of yourself & be safe!

Isn't activated charcoal what they use in aquarium filters? I wouldn't take it. There are a lot of home remedies out there that people swear by but they're not always safe. Despite the fact that botulism spores are found in honey so they tell you never to give honey to a child under 1 yr of age, people still rub honey on gums during teething and just in the small town I'm currently living in I've seen at least 4 stories of babies dying from this. But still there are folks who say "My parents did it to me and it worked just fine".... I'd research it

Too risky to your health when you don't know how it may affect you as an individual.  You may have a negative reaction from something a friend suggested.

I ended up using it. I took one during and one after and woke up with a slight headache but nausea wise I felt wonderful. It wasn't until I had started drinking smartwater that I started feeling crappy like ugh I have to puke. So almost wondering if the charcoal and the water offset each other.

Why not just go to the party and enjoy yourself, but PLEASE, have a designated driver available! I personally wouldn't chance putting this activated charcoal in my body!

Whoa.  I just got some to use in a terrarium, but I'd never consider ingesting the stuff.  It can't be good for you.

Seriously????
If you need to take something to absorb alcohol,
maybe you should invest that money in some alcohol rehab.

Planned over drinking is immature and dangerous..... just sayin............

Who ever said I was over drinking? 2-3 beers max and I get a big hangover. I could eat a hefty meal before, eat during and drink water in between drinks and it does not matter. It's been like that since I had my son. Lots of people have hangover tricks and this is one I hadn't heard of.
