Living Statues in New York City
« on: May 30, 2012, 07:52:45 am »
Wikipedia describes Living Statues as a mime artist who poses like a statue or mannequin, usually with realistic statue-like makeup, sometimes for hours at a time.

I had the pleasure of actually seeing Living Statues when I lived in New York. I was and still amazed by the fact that they can stand still for a long period of time with paint and sometimes glitter all over their bodies.

I would see Living Statues in the Central Park and in the Times Square Subway Station.

boy that would take a lot of patience and could you imagine doing that on a really hot day or when some rude drunk or crazy person was bugging you?   kudos to the living statues

I've never seen them in real life but it does sound amazing. Especially if there are so good you don't notice they are real people. It would be a hard job for most unless you think alot in your head without much outside stimulus anyway.

Yeah I think those people are amazing.  I don't understand how they stand still for so long!  It's crazy awesome.

I saw some similar to that in New Orleans.  Was fun to watch people interact with them and give them a tip to see them move.

I remember seeing "living mannequins" in some of the clothing stores modeling various apparel.  Seems that this was a trend back in the 80's.

I've seen a number of them in my lifetime and some are pretty convincing too. I tend to see them pretty consistently when I'm in Vegas in places like the Venetician.
