What is in a name?Why did you're parents gave you your name?

 I was wondering about names we got from parent's b/c I just learned where mine came from. Mom & Dad gave me my name after the daughter of one of the President of the of the USA. Everything was fine with the name but why did they have to pick it from a Republican president!??

What about you guys in FC site, how did you get your name?

My parents picked my name out of a baby book..  I suppose you were looking for a more original answer than that, but it seems to be the case for a lot of people.

my parents wanted to name all of us (3) girls tracy marie but got named after supposibly each one after my dad's ex girlfriends names think i was really named after a singer

My parents just liked the name. My name is Trina which is part of the popular name KaTrina that was going around at the time of my birth, than my middle name was after a family member.  The same thing applied to my brother first name was a popular name at the time, middle name after family.

       Wait until they go to school and a teacher gives them a piece of paper and a pencil to write their name. The kids start wondering- What is my name? They will have to learn the entire alphabet until they can write their own name.

I was named after both grandmothers, with the given name of my mother going back 4 generations. But everyone always called me by my nickname.

My mother named me after my father and Great aunt.  I felt so proud I was named after them.  My first daughter I did not name her after any one but my youngest daughter I named her after my mother.  I named my son after his father and my grandson is a JR.  We have kept the name "James" in each generation.  Also "James" was the name of the brother of Jesus.

My sister wanted to name me after her favorite teacher.  My mom wanted to name me Mary, but my sister got her wish and named me Brenda.

Some xtian denominations consider the Matthew 1:25 statement that Joseph "knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son" to mean that Joseph and Mary did have normal marital relations after Jesus' birth, and that James, Joses and Jude were the biological sons of Mary and Joseph; and, thus, Jesus' half-brothers. Oddly, such presumptions, ("half-brothers"; implying a supernatural infidelity on Mary's part since she remained married to Joe before, during and after the alleged supernatural infidelity), are unsupported by anything other than the self-referential circular contentions of 'the bible says so'.

Another oddity is the four brothers whose names all begin with a "J", (and a supposed 5th brother's name broke the pattern and got saddled with "Simon" when the five of them could have formed a band called "The J-five" and inspired the Jackson family centuries later).

My parents named me Jacqueline after Jacqueline Kennedy...and ironically I married a man named John lol

i was named after one of my dads favorite aunts. and now my neice is named after me.

When my mom graduated from high school, her class was over 600 and there was only 1 girl named Jolene, so they picked it so I would have a unique name. Then Dolly Parton put out that song and it haunts me to this day!
