When I was growing up and playing soccer, the ref's got very strict about swearing on the field, carding kids that used foul language. Because of this, our coach had us use other words instead of the explicit words to vent our frustration, anger, and pain during the games. It got so ingrained that even now I'll use my replacement words, esp. when in mixed company where it may not be so appropriate. Here's a few of the words that I used:

Sugar
Peaches Heist (actually that was a favorite one of one of my friends. Much better than using the Lord's name in vain!)
Fahrfeneugin

Censorship is so silly.  The only thing that makes a word "bad" is the taboo placed on it.  You can be just as angry and with the same intentions saying holy crap!!! as you can the other way.  So it's dumb.

Also, if you watch TV shows from other countries (Australia, for example), they are not all prude like America is.  The "f" word is just a regular part of the conversation and said so casually, you would almost miss it.

America: where you can't say "curse" words on TV, but you can talk about sexual acts/innuendos openly.

Also when I make reference to someone who swore, I'll say " He used the "ph" word.

I don't do it because I'm a prude or opposed to swearing..( I've been known to use colorful language, especially when I was working as a female Deputy in the jail..sometimes you have to talk to the inmates in their own language ( but I would also do it in conversations with other officers too) I do it to be different and it makes people notice and sometimes makes them laugh.

i dont have kids and  i try not to swear but it is sure annoying to go out in public and hear all the swearing from kids

Agreed.  There ae no "bad" words; words are symbols to which we attach meanings and attributing a subjective perception such as "good" or "bad" to a word's definition in order to censor it or not isn't objectively rational.  

"Foul language" becomes an arbitrary concept, depending upon who finds what to be 'offensive'.  For instance, if I find the word "faith" to be offensive, (and I certainly do), because its meaning is derrogatory to reason then it ought to be censored as well.

To a chicken, everything is 'fowl' language.

I love the phrase Mark Ruffalo used in "The Kids Are Alright." You think he's gonna say the "Shut the f*** up" but instead he says "Shut the front door!"  HA!

Good point.  In the BattleStar Galactica series, they'd use the term "frak" instead of the censored word of the same meaning.  That's a subtle way to bypass arbitrary censorship, (today, "frak" isn't a "cuss word", it may be one in the future).  Another such word is "frigging" or, "frig"; which carry the exact same connotations  while making an end-run around censorship.  Now that's comedy.

One of our sisters says "Oh My Stars" sometimes instead of "Oh My God".  But yet, she has used the txt/IM version of OMG in posts or comments.

Yeah, reminds me of Rhinna's "S&M"... On the radio, they muted out the word "sex" yet "chains and whips excite me" is ok... And along that line, some songs have "sex" censored but LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" is fine (in terms of that particular word). 

Oh My Gosh is another big one I hear a lot (or just plain Gosh, for that matter).
Darn is also overused.

And along the lines of Falcon9's point about Battlestar Galactica's end-around for swearing, I like how Firefly would revert into Mandarin Chinese to vent (I wish I actually spoke it to see if they were in fact using Chinese swear words).

Mandarian venting ... hrmm, or Swahili?  One could get by the automated censorship with "Nenda kajitombe" for instance, (the translation wouldn't), or any other non-English terms.  Facinating.
