Dragon speak!
« on: May 08, 2012, 11:20:44 pm »
I just got blue Dragon speak it is a lot of fun to talk into the microphone and have the computer do the typing for you! If you have not ever had one or seen one I think it is fun! To just talk into the microphone and easier than trying to type all the words that I can think of to say a IRA to answer the questions here!

I'm so glad to have seen your topic!  I just bought a copy of the Dragon software and am anxious to get it installed and start using it.  It is so cool that I will be able to use it for the Forum as well.  Great to know and I'm really excited about the possibilities.  Is the software pretty easy to use?  Do you have any suggestion to make regarding things you've learned about it through use?  Good topic and I'm so glad you posted. I'm looking forward to doing my Forums by voice!

I helped Ed get his installed and it was pretty simple. It makes you read some copy for about 4 minutes to learn how you speak, then it will type into any application you want it to. Just remember Ed, you still need to proofread it before you click post.

This goes far to account for some of the garbled posts I've replied to recently on FC, (and possibly elsewhere).  As "oldbuddy" points out, such speech-recognition software results need proofreading before one hits "send", (unless one doesn't care about garbled posts, or others deciphering 'dragonspeak' dialects).
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

I agree with oldbuddy that you probably want to proofread your posts first when you're using the software because I've seen some of your posts and they are hard to understand. The first one I saw I thought that perhaps English was your second language!!  :o

English is not my second language I just have a hard time spelling and reading. It's a lot easier with Dragon speak. To speak a bit to speak and prior to try and type. What I'm trying to think of to say. I sometimes can think and talk faster than Dragon type. But it is still a lot easier to have a dagger to the typing than trying to figure out how to spell all the words and type one finger at a time.but with Dragon I can talk to it and it can do most of the typing for me and make less mistakes that way. Than I would if I tried to type out what to say. So I will have a hard time with what I am trying to say. But it is better this way than it was when I tried to hunt and peck system of typing. I enjoyed working here with fusion cash and it is fun.

Some versions of Dragon are frustrating to use.  Is Dragon Blue pretty simple?

Some versions of Dragon are frustrating to use.  Is Dragon Blue pretty simple?

DragonSpeak software retains the same previous inability to parse, depending upon what the user is actually saying aloud and what is recognised, (grammarically-speaking -- see the post below from a user of Dragon "blue").

"The pricey license of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 serves only one user; rocky installation on Windows Vista; no Mac option; poor audio quality on included headset led to poor results.

The bottom line: Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 isn't perfect, but it's the best dictation software available. We don't find this upgrade necessary for the most basic dictation, although new features may benefit heavily accented English speakers and those who rely heavily on voice commands".
