something that will put a smile on her face. not flowers cause thats a always gift. see and find out what she likes or watch her and see the favorite thing she does maybe it might help you.

Here's an idea:

If my Mother was still living I would make her a small quilt with all of the children's pictures on it.
Pictures can be put on fabric squares same as you do on a shirt, then just sew them together like a quilt.
Make sure to include the date in the bottom corner of the quilt.

My mother's best gift is to see my kids, and her birthday is this Friday as well, so we're going to see her and bringing her a favorite cake (ice cream cake-   chocolate) with art supplies.   Art is how she keeps busy, it's just her "thing", and she'll be happy feeding her grand-kids lots of sugary cake.

Make a scrapbook for her of all the family from day of birth til now and of course include all the grandkids.

  Well it depends on your mother and her individual preferences and likes.  My mom passed away last year but she personally thought flowers to be a waste of money and she didn't like things for the house - she liked clothes or gift certificates where she could go pick out her own gift.  We used to kid around that we might as well wrap up money in a box because anything else she would take back - she was just particular about stuff.  WOW I really miss her.

The best gift for me is a great card from my son. One that he picked because of the message in the card.  I can't think of anything I would enjoy more from him.  Now if he included a day with he and his family that would be an even better gift!  Big gifts have never been important to me.  It is the gifts of the heart that mean the most and say the most to me.  I really enjoy looking back at the cards he made at school or has gotten me over the years.  Moms are such big mushes!
