Is the Exodus, or the ‘Passing over of the Jews’ real?
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:16:03 am »
My mother (Roman Catholic) has just finished watching the Passover section of the Ten Commandments.  She then turned to my father (Orthodox Jewish) and asked, “Is the Passover real?”  My father replied (incorrectly as far as I was concerned), “there is no main stream archeology to suggest it is.”  She then turns to me (Orthodox Jewish) and says, “do you know you’re celebrating something that didn’t exist?”  I’m like, “wait a minute.  How can you as a Roman Catholic not believe in Passover?  One your whole religion centers around Jesus being the son of God.  You really think Jesus in his infinite wisdom, being the biological son of God would celebrate something that was just a farce created temple priests because his last supper as the church calls it is the Passover meal.  Two, even if they don’t teach you that Jesus’ last meal was the Passover meal the church acknowledge it as such because when you take communion why do you think it’s a thin wafer your given?  Because the company that makes then pays good money to the pope?  No.  It’s because the Church knows that it was a Passover service and when Jesus broke the bread and gave it to his disciples to ‘eat of his flesh’ they knew it was flat bread.  If they didn’t acknowledge it then any bread would do, like a dinner roll.  In Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ they show you it was flat bread because they know it was a Passover Meal.  Third, God Himself proves the Passover is real by taking ‘his son’ when He did because He made sure that the last meal ‘his son’ ate was the holiest meal a Jew does it.  If Passover was not real then why take Jesus after making sure his last meal was a Passover mean. Why not take him after say an ordinary dinner on a Thursday in June?  god knew the most important meal his son would ever eat is a Passover meal and also knew ‘his son’s’ last meal would be important to those who followed him.  Therefore, logically, if Jesus is real then the Passover—the whole reason for a Passover service is real.

Your father is correct; there have been no secular archeological finds which support the "exodus" of religious texts.  There have been attempts by religious adherents with inherent vested interest to 'stretch' some things to force-fit them into a religious context however, these 'fringe' theories have not been corroberated by mainstream archeologists. {see thread in Debate+Discuss, "Archeology and the bible"}

She then turns to me (Orthodox Jewish) and says, “do you know you’re celebrating something that didn’t exist?”

You answered her question by presenting a false premise, (one unsupported by evidence, since 'faith' is not evidential).

Therefore, logically, if Jesus is real then the Passover—the whole reason for a Passover service is real.

The conclusion results from a logical fallacy since you proceded from a false premise, (the unsubstantiated assumption of religious belief), the conclusion is also in error.  The logical fallacy also incorporates arguing backwards from a preconceived conclusion concerning "jesus" to support the premise, (that's nominally sophist, not logic per se).

Yes,the Passover is very real.It also symbolizes God's "passing over" our sins onto Christ,who paid for them with His death on the cross.That's why Jesus died on a Passover.

Yes,the Passover is very real.

Unless you can provide evidence that it is, this is merely an empty proclamation, (and that would be evidence of the underLying concept, not evidence that "passover" is observed, despite the lack of evidential support for said concept).

It also symbolizes God's "passing over" our sins onto Christ

The hypothesis of soteriology; the alledged basis of 'salvation' which is supposedly 'grace through faith', (which has no rational basis), but
not by grace alone through faith alone, rather through a new birth achieved by a combination of faith, repentance, water baptism, and baptism in the Holy Spirit, (the last essential to salvation).  None of the foregoing purely specious religious concepts has any evidentiary basis other than sophist circularity, ('having faith that such is true because faith is required to believe that it's true').  Unless you can provide evidence that it is, this is merely another empty proclamation embodying an unsupported religious belief.
who paid for them with His death on the cross.

That's why Jesus died on a Passover.

No, that term was applied after the proposed date of death; it wasn't called that before the alleged event.  You seem to have a great deal of difficulty with the concept of 'sequentiality', ("characterized by regular sequence of parts; following; subsequent; consequent"), as many of your otehr rambling babbles have indicated often enough to be considered evidential.
