Sending cards to active military abroad
« on: April 22, 2012, 04:44:27 pm »
I would like to send cards to military personnel away from their families but I have heard that the post office now has a new policy that you have to have a specific individual's name. Can anyone give me suggestions on how I can send cards to a group of active military abroad? Thank you!

This was done for the protection of military personnel and their families.  If you'd still like to send generic cards to unspecified personnel, you could try the USO, although no guarantees there, sorry.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

They have all kinds of organizations that put together things like this!  They basically match you with a person who might not get too much mail and you send them things directly.  I did it a couple of different times.  One was through adopt a platoon.  You could choose to send cards only or cards and packages.  I still hear from the guy they linked me with, just touching base now that he's back in the states.  They deserve respect, attention and some kind words!  They appreciate every single thing you do so much, it is crazy!  When I would ask what they wanted, they would say things like toothpaste!  Overseas dedicating your life for your country and your wish is toothpaste.  Hm.  Wish definitely granted, plus much more!  Now, you are making me want to sign up again!  ;D

Thank you Falcon9.  mperez7372, I hope you do sign up again! I know how grateful my brother was to receive ANYTHING when he was in Vietnam.
