Gas Prices so HIGH....... WHY?

Could some please tell me why the gas prices are so high? I think its a little stupid myself. To me it sounds like someone wants more money in their pockets and the hell with the rest of us.

not really sure why they are so high, i guess there are a lot of reasons.  They are starting to fall somewhat here in Southern California.

Because that gas that goes doesn't come back and you can't make more and it's more vaulable when there is less in the world

The tree huggers are in power in Washington. Read the quotes from Al Gore to the energy director under Obama. They want high prices for fuel so that we poor people will stop driving so much and ruining the environment. They have actually come out and said it so it is not a secret.

I agree that it stinks, but its not like we can expect to get honest answers from our government! And for people like me who don't have public transportation, I guess we are just STUCK with the prices!

You may not have the mechanics but you definitely have the right idea. That's it ! In business when the demand is high the price is high because they believe that the supply is finite but in this case it's just theivery because the supply is plentiful. there is no reason except the market demand that the price of gasoline is this high. I trust our scientists will soon have a viable alternative to rid our country of these evil practices.

Actually, there is another reason in addition to what you mentioned; futures speculation can drive oil & gasoline prices up, (or down).  I've wondered how many such futures speculators are affiliated with oil companies, (either as stock holders with a vested interest or, in another way).

I trust our scientists will soon have a viable alternative to rid our country of these evil practices.

The gas prices seem to be coming down a little.  So far about 5 cents per gallon.

I've heard of it as oil speculation which drive's the gas price's. Sure they do hurt the people, gas goes up, the cost of price's do to, and the pay check's stay the same.

That's because many middle-east, (and some other), goverments heavily subsidize the retail prices to an artificially-low level.

Poor speculating and/or speculators in bed with oil companies. Does anyone remember late 2007 when we found out the TRUE price and gas was 1.50 and lower for a little while

IIRC, it was actually $1.39/gallon for regular unleaded, (without the artificial pricing bump).  I also recall which oil-connected person was president in 2007.
