What is your good old days?

I have been thinking about this for quite some time now. In the good old days, your mom stayed at home or if she worked, it was only part time. In the good old days, families spent more time together in the evenings and on weekends. In the good old days, all of the neighbor kids played on the street or in their yards and after school activities were rare. Our dogs were always part of that play. My dog Lady used to play outfield, but the only problem was that she would only bring the ball back to me.

I am not at that age to look back and remember the good old days.  I  can vividly remembered as a young girl I would spend time with my cousin and we have lots of fun.

Back in the day, my mom stayed at home and babysat, while my dad worked full-time. There were seven of us all together, but we were never without. I never went to preschool because I always had kids my age to play with. We ate dinner as a family everyday.

     My teen years were the best years of my life. Oh, Sweet 16! I miss you.

Back in the day we rushed home from school to have plenty of time to play outside with our friends before a sit down supper with my family. No computers or cell phones. Read lots of books and watched movies in b/w on our one tv, walked in the woods or played baseball. Mom was home to help us with our homework while dad worked. On weekends we did things together as a family or went to our grandparents house in the country. We knew our neighbors and helped out where ever we could. Mowed lawns and raked leaves, babysit and walked the dog, and shoveled snow in the winter. We didn't need things to entertain us, we did make believe and entertained ourselves.

The good old days  bring back so many wonderful memories. The smell of fresh cut grass on a Saturday morning, watching scooby doo and the smurfs while eating a bowl of captain crunch cereals. No worries of bills and enjoying the kiddie life. I can remember walking blocks to my friends house with no worries of anyone trying to kidnap me or harm me in anyway.  Now a days you cant walk out your front door without someone wanting to cause harm to you for no reason.

I grew up in the 1950's. Believe it or not my neighborhood and home life was just like "Leave It To Beaver". I wonder if it is that good for any of the kids growing up today. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face.

When I was growing up things were simple, we never heard of cellphones, computers, wireless things.  My mom would tell us that the tv does not come on til 6pm and only til 8pm and we believed her.  Of course later in life we figured out she said that to us so we made sure we did our homework and went to bed early.  We made our own board games like chutes and latter, battleship and even chess set.

I also grew up in the 50's and totally agree that things were very much like what was depicted on TV in 'Leave It To Beaver', 'Father Knows Best', 'Ozzie and Harriet' and others.  Of course, I grew up in a small town and my grandparents lived in a smaller town but we walked all over and never worried about anything happening.  'Bad guys' wore black hats in the movies and the 'good guys' in the white hats always won.  A quarter used to get us into the movie and buy a soda and candy bar or popcorn and there were Saturday movies just for kids (that means grade school kids who went without an adult along to supervise ).  I don't remember anyone being rowdy but maybe that's selective memory.  I know we had a lot of fun

Back in the day my mom stayed home and my dad worked.  During the summer months all the neighborhood kids played outside all day long.  We went home long enough to eat and then back outside.  We stayed out until it got dark outside.  There was usually 1 house that everybody would end up hanging out at.  (The one where the mom supplied the food and kool aid)  That was usually my house.

 No,my mom worked full time-I don't remember my dad, but the holidays with the whole family were all the more special- and the nights I would play bingo with Mom. And having the coolest older brothers and sisters!

Every day is the "good ol' days" for me, because that's how I live my life - to the fullest.  My definition of the "good ol' days" doesn't have anything to do with old-fashioned values, btw.
