I can find my way around a mall great, but put my hubby inside and he is totally lost. Put him in the mountains and never gets lost. Go figure.

This depends upon several variables and upon the man or woman trying to follow them.  Some people are good with the "go two blocks that way (pointing) and turn right at the light ... keep going until you see the street you asked about ..." type of directions.  Others prefer the "turn around and go back to where the abandoned scary-looking grey house used to be before it burned down nine years ago ... hang a left and drive until you see an older gal with a shopping cart (she's always there, don't worry) and turn right ... if you see a barn, you've gone too far ..." type of directions.  Then you'll get the "Proceed north for 13.7 miles, then turn right onto x Street and drive another 19.7 miles to y Ave.; turn right onto Y Ave. and drive 6.6 miles - you have arrived at your destination" type of GPS directions.

Some people will get lost no matter how precise the directions are and others will find a way, no matter how vague the same directions were.

One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

In general I think men would say women are bad with directions and women would say that men are bad with directions.  I don't think it has anything to do with gender.  Some people are bad some aren't.

Actually I don't think sex has anything to do with how well you follow directions.  I know I rarely get lost and if I do I just head for the nearest freeway here in the metro mess and I can find my way back home from there.  But I found a 1920 road map of how to go from Dallas to El Paso and after looking at it for about 10 minutes I had to admit I got lost when it said, "Go west 10 miles turn right at the Oak treen."  And the writer figures that everybody who uses these directions knows what an oak tree is?

I think anyone with poor sense of direction can easily get lost. I usually can find my way around when I travel to a new location with a map provided that it’s up to date. It’s not difficult as it seems.
