coupon hoarders
« on: March 30, 2012, 11:51:53 pm »
what do you think about people that spend 40 hours or more getting coupons for stuff they have no place to put? i watch a show where they spend so much time getting coupons they dont have time for their kids unless of course they are clipping coupons with them, then when they get home not only is there no place to put the stuff, it would take them years and years to actually use it all. i think coupons are great, but i also think there is a reasonable use of them. hoarding stuff just because you get it free is only hurting your family, it is taking your time from them, it is taking room and storage they could use in your home, and from what i can tell it is making these people a nervous wreck at the register. i use coupons when i have them, but i do not need five years worth of bar-b-que sauce lol

I agree, there needs to be balance. Nothing wrong with stocking up or finding a deal. When it consumes your life, its too much.

I think it becomes some sort of sickness this hoarding. Some people say they developed the problem after growing up in poverty. Others say it was their life during the great depression. I know old folks who's houses are so full they can not use most of their homes, yet won't allow anything to be given away or thrown away. I stock up for the winter months but would have no use for 20-30 bottles of any one item. It better be cookies if I collect that many packages. lol

I'm not sure how these people are able to get stuff with coupons to the degree mentioned here.  Personally I'm an avid coupon clipper.  Every Sunday when I go to the local laundromat the owners give the the Sunday newspaper coupons.  I have my oldest (when she has time) match the coupons up to the Jewel Circular.  Everything can be taken to far but I honestly don't see how people can possibly spend 40 hours clipping coupons and looking for deals.  I get overwhelmed with what I'm already doing.

I love saving money with coupons and use them quite often for items I need or really want. More often I research Coupon Codes when buying things online. It takes only a few minutes and the savings can be quite substantial.

Some of them donate stuff to food banks which seems like a worthwhile use.  I definately use coupons more then I used to but I could never bring myself to spend the time and energy those people do.

I am certain I know what show you are talking about, I think most of us do  ;). I do like to clip coupons and save money. After the economy turned I had to go from having a full-time, well paying job, to working 30 hours a week and moving in with my parents. I do enjoy clipping coupons and saving money. I just do not have the time to spend that these people do to clip coupons and prepare for shopping trips. With working 30 hours, and then meeting up with friends, and doing other things. I just clip coupons and look at websites that give me match-ups when I can. Some weeks I do it, some weeks I do not. Luckily, we only get one Sunday paper, so I am not going to have 20 of the same coupons.

At work we match up with a foundation that helps battered women and their children for Christmas. So it was an amazing feeling to be able to donate things I had been able to save on or gotten for free to help them out. This past week there were some coupons to get some toys on sale, so I got some and look forward to being able to help out again this coming christmas!

I would love to be a coupon hoarder, but I don't really have it in me to spend a whole day shopping at 6 different stores.  Plus, every time I go to use a dang coupon, it's expired lol.  Unless it was from a P&G pack, those are usually good for 2 years.

I get two different Sunday papers and clip most of the coupons.  The ones I don't use, go to a duaghter.  I try to match up manufacturing coupons with store sales or coupons.  Unfortunately, we do not have double coupons here.  I have saved quite a bit of money with coupons and do have a stockpile, but it is nothing like the ones on that program.

I do not use coupons very much, as most of the time they are for things that I do not ordinarily buy. Just to buy things because you have a coupon doesn't really make much sense to me.

I don't think they think right due to hoarding being a type of brain in-balance.  You should only clip/print what you know you will use each week/ month.  Hoarding can happen very easly to anyone due to certain situations that can happen in peoples lives.  A death, something violent just about anything tragic in someones life can start it.  Just watch hoarders one night and it will make you take a look at your own self and situations and I guarentee you will start cleaning out.  Have a great day.   :cat:

I love clipping coupons to save money, although I don't consider myself a hoarder. Who's to say those people don't use all those products they buy. Like someone else said, there are people who coupon and donate food to shelters and food banks. As long as you're giving back, I don't see a problem.

I feel the same way, I would love to be hooked on coupons as long as I didnt have anything else to do I would be a shopping coupon junkie
