Any good exercise for losing weight?
« on: March 30, 2012, 08:04:56 am »
Hello Ladies and gentlemen! I would like to know if any of you know of a specific exercise that can help me(or anyone at all) lose the fat from the underarms & between the legs. Also exercise to lift & shape the butt. That is a huge challenge for me that I have not been able to accomplish in any way. Any suggestions would be very helpful!  :)

Sometimes the area that troubles is most is simply due to what we are made up of.  Other times it simply a matter of what we're eating.  I know whenever I've had a gym membership and utilized all the machines the proper way than my self conscious areas always slimmed down and toned.  Never to the expectations I wanted because my body just simply wasn't designed to look that way.  If you don't have access to gym equipment.  Squats are great for the butt.  So are those things where you lay on your back...bend your legs and lift at the hips.  That's about all I know - hope that helps.

I would have to agree that going to the gym and using that type of equipment works best. Also lifting weights and walking. Speed walking is not necessary just walk instead of driving everywhere. Helps build fat into muscle. Remember muscle weights more than fat so don't worry yourself on the scales. After a while it all evens out. I think fat in those areas is the hardest to tone up.

Spot reduction of weight in specific areas due to particular training methodologies is a contested idea.  Some say that you cannot control where the body stores or uses fat from and others (such as Arnold Schwarzenegger) think that you might be able to get some thermal benefits from certain specific movements, even if only slightly.  You can certainly perform exercises to enhance specific areas and for the buttocks area, using proper form and lifting technique, I would recommend squats and semi stiff legged deadlifts.  Everyone has a different makeup of muscle fibers so it is up to some experimentation to determine what is the best weight and rep system to approach.

I also think that the best way to target fat burning is to perform an exercise that triggers what people call 'second wind'.  This is generally the point that the body switches over from burning sugar for energy to using fat.  The easier breathing comes from the fat not requiring the oxygen levels to convert to energy that sugar does.  For myself I found that stagger training where I mix in large bursts of energy (sprints, heavy lifts, etc) spaced with a small rest or reduced period between (45 seconds or so) and then after a 5 or 10 minutes of this switching to a very fast walk or slow jog would fulfill this for me.  Some sports activities can do this too so if you have some that you like that seem to trigger a second wind sufficiently use them.  In general though you must realize that weight loss is not particularly conducive to muscle growth so that shaping and lifting might not be as rapid while you attempt to also shed some fat in areas.
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.

the best exercise for losing weight, all over, is cardio...like eliptical machines at the gym or jogging outside. Its best to use a heartrate monitor and get to know your "zones"

The best exercise is performed before each meal, you place your palms firmly against the edge of the table and PUSH.

I just started a major weight loss campaign.  I'm pretty sure I'm always destined to look like a flying squirrel when I hold my arms out. :dontknow: :dontknow:

Control food intake.  Try crossfit for intense interval workouts.

I think walking 5-6 times a week starting out slow if you're not used to it and then building up to 30 minutes at a fairly fast pace will work. Supplement this with weigh bearing exercises 3 times a week . specific for under your arms is triceps exercises along with chest presses with the machines or a light dumbbell routine is good. Try to ease your way into these exercises meaning start out with lighter weights and higher repetions then as the weights get easier move up a few pounds. In the long run you will be happier with the results. Try to do stairs that help the glutes or the eliptical machine or treadmill at an incline. Slow and steady will get the desired result and will keep the weight off longer. Supplement this with a healthy diet and your golden. Don't worry if you cheat on food my motto is if you have a craving satisfy it or it will make you eat more. Also I have found having the bad stuff earlier in the day makes me feel less guily cause i m burning it off. happy trails.

Thumper18, how long did it take you to lose the 100 pounds? I am in desperate need to lose weight before getting pregnant again. My husband & I are trying to have another baby.

Oldbuddy, so you mean kinda like push-ups, but like you said by placeing my palms firmly against the edge of the table and pushing?

It was a joke, what it means is push yourself away from the FOOD.
