Have you ever come across someone so smart that you started to feel that they were just being obnoxious. Everything turns into a debate with quotes from things you really could care less about but they just don't seem to know when to be quiet.

I know a few people who are truely very smart, but they do have a way of belittling others.

This brings someone to mind, but I don't think he's very smart.  He thinks he's smarter than most everyone  :bs:, but there in lies his problem.  He will talk your ear off.  He's extremely literal, which I found wasted my time and energy.  :angry7: He's got some crazy ideas about things he really knows very little about.  He was in a club I belong to, but was forced to leave under unfavorable conditions.  Huh, not very smart there.  :dontknow:

Yes...I have a friend who pretends to know everything.  He thinks he's worth something if he has a reputation for being knowledgeable.  The bottom line is that he actually has a problem with low self esteem.
Have a great day!

To me it always depends on what they are debating.  If it's something they can prove, alright fine, it's annoying but they may have the right facts.  When it's something they can't prove, like what I'm thinking or whatever, then that's when I get frustrated with them.

My favorite are guys at clubs or bars.  I had one guy actually arguing with me that I wanted him.  Ugh, frustrating.  I know that's not entirely what you mean, but that's what first came to mind.

Yap, but there's a difference on how you handle it.If you let on that he/she is effecting you negatively by their obnoxious behavior; they'll keep on doing it just to get a rise out of you!

Solutions: don't respond, I'm sure their ego would be totally destroyed when no one shows any interest!

& if you can't ignore them right now, get a punching bag & focus you're frustrations on that punching bag! :thumbsup:r

Alternatively, have you ever come across people who seem to resent their own impression that others appear to be 'smarter' than they are?  It may be a sense of low self-esteem or, they really aren't as smart as others and strongly resent that.  The vast majority of those who are 'smart' have no need to announce what is manifestly evident.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Yes I have and they are well overbearing people. That I cannot stand. But I also noticed that those people lack common sense.

Absolutely!  I find that people who present themselves are not really smart, but just like to hear themselves talk. Often they know a little about a few subjects and those are the subjects that they want to go on and on about. And sometimes, these people are smart in terms of information, but ignorant in the ways of social graces. So they are boring instead of being interesting. It takes all kinds I guess. Sometimes it's a little crazy sorting it all out when it comes to people. In general, if my experience with someone is consistently unpleasant then I just don't bother to expose myself at all or too often. Depending on the degree of discomfort.  Good topic.  Thanks!

That's funny, I know exactly what you mean. I have to tell my son all the time no one likes a SMARTY PANTS. Don't get me wrong I'm glad you know random things that great but do make people feel less then you just because you are smart.....help them get on your level! because you will lose a lot of friends doing things like that

Yes. Dated that type...and the thing is a lot of times the things they debate about and claim to be true are actually them just being insecure and trying to make themselves look smart when in reality a lot of things they say are just made up. When your truly smart you don't have to put others down and have no reason to be insecure about being smart.

I'm tempted to jump in and say. "Those who think they know everything are annoying to those of us who do."  Which exhibits MY tendency towards Smarty Pants, I guess.  Seriously, people who are smart and insist on exhibiting it in an overbearing way tend to simply wear me out.  There's enough going on in my life to wear me out now; I don't need help in that area.  There is one good thing about this type of person; it makes my end of the conversation much easier to hold up.  And--once in awhile I actually learn something.  So--not a total loss, I guess   :dog:
