Yes, actually I have done mystery shopping for several years, I ended up having my favorite companies to deal with, I never had a problem receiving payments, I would do this when I would travel with my husband on his job, that gave me something to do, and also earn some extra cash, or get free food, I would still do it, but we live in a remote area and it wouldn't pay for me to drive almost an hour to particpate, its not big money, but it is worth your time if you are looking for ways to earn some extra cash.  Good luck!!

I sign up for one company that said it was free. However, once I joined the free became not so free. They wanted five dollars a month to be a member. At first they said you could be a free member for as long as you wanted. But after joining you realize there is a 30 day limit on that and also if your free you can't get any jobs. My area is rural anyways so it would have cost me to much to be running around, so I quit. But I have heard there are good companies out there if you can find them.   :dontknow:

I haven't done it but my sister works at speedway and they come in all the time. One lady who quit doing it told her u use your own money but get reimbursed. They check to see if speedway workers was asking for your speedy reward cards, clean store, hot food, nice workers. I have also only seen adds that wants money to start..

I have done it for years and do it all the time.  I always fall back on it in between jobs or when I need extra money or right after Hurricane Katrina when I had to move for a while, but wouldn't be gone long enough to get a full time job.  It is fun and legitimate.  It is FREE!   IF THEY ASK YOU TO PAY SOME FEE, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!  It is a job, so you should not pay for anything, other than the items required to do the shop. For example, if the shop is for a restaurant, you will need to pay for your meal.  You then submit your report and receipt and they reimburse you, plus usually pay a little extra.  I am part of many companies, but certainly have my favorites and have a relationship with them at this point.  I do not think I can post names on here, but you can usually sign up and look at job boards before you have to put your social in.  If anyone knows that I can pout it up here, I would be happy to provide referral links.  It is not online money, so maybe I can but I don't want to do anything "illegal."  Find a company that does the kind of work you would enjoy, then sign up for a shop.  A word to the wise... this is not get rich quick money!  You must be able to write well and pay attention to detail.  It is work!!!  It is basically quality assurance.  You are going to be required to fill out a report, sometimes very extensive!, and submit it in a timely manner.  If you are unable to do this, you run the risk of not getting paid.  This is not a "scam" as it is a requirement of the job!  I have never had a problem getting paid.  Every company I have ever worked with has been great.  If you are a good writer and responsible with your assignments, they will begin asking you to complete jobs for them.  Have fun and good luck!

Great topic and the information from mperez7372 was comprehensive and interesting. I have often wondered about this type of work for extra income and didn't know the way to go about it. It sounds like direct contact with companies is a good way to go about it and/or checking job boards that are advertising for actual companies. I'm sure there will be a bit of "weeding out" necessary to get started with the right companies, but got the idea from mperez7372 that once a relationship is established that good follow through can create lasting relationships.  Thanks again and good luck!

I have never done mystery shopping - what is it exactly, and how do you get started?

Thank you, ptfunds.  That was nice.  Most companies will ask you if you have a license or certification, but I have never been passed over for a job because I didn't have either.  There are seriously shops for everything!  I do casinos a lot, restaurants, most big name fast food restaurants, movie theaters, high end restaurants (I have done several of Emeril's!), hotels, retail stores, bars... you name it, there is a company out there who hires shoppers to do the quality assurance (otherwise known as a mystery shop).
