vases and flowers
« on: March 15, 2012, 06:45:24 am »
I have noticed in the last few years that people would rather give something useful than give flowers for special occasions. A friend gave me a vase for flowers when she moved. I have loaned it out about 3 times in the last 2 years. I, myself, don't get flowers as a gift often [I am not complaining].  I got  birthday balloons once. That was fun.

Some people just want something that won't die in two weeks. Potted plants are a much better gift (if that person has a green thumb). Personally, I would rather get a potted plant that I can take care of for years to come than a bouquet of cut flowers that I'll have to trash in three weeks.

i much prefer a potted plant , ( have a green thumb) some of my cuttings have even ended up in alaska. It is so nice to be able to share something that you grow.

I have never gotten a potted plant as a gift. My boyfriend always gets me flowers with an expensive vase, but I think it would be nice to get a potted plant. However, I have never grown any real plants I really want to get into gardening but I rent a house so it makes it more difficult. Any tips?

Maybe I am old fashioned, but I love getting flowers on special occasions. I know they don't keep very well for very long, but I think it shows the person who sent them cares. My favorite kind is purple tulips.

I love getting cut flowers.  They seem to brighten up a room and my spirits too!

Flowers have become vey expensive and they only last about a week.  The vase if it is clear is good for storing kitchen utensils in .  It is also good for all of thse odds and ends that we just need to keep and might use someday.

I have had alot of my friends say why give someone flowers for a gift because yeah they are beautiful and they do come from the heart. But they die really fast and they would rather give something that last forever. I guess i see their point in a way but come on how romantic is it sometimes for a guy to give a girl some roses i find it pretty sweet. Or when someone is sick in the hospital and they just light up when u bring them in a pretty vase of colorful flowers.

I don't get or give flowers very often, but I buy them for myself or mother occasionally - the grocery store often has a stand of cut flowers. Picking up some are just nice occasionally. Do prefer the potted though, generally I pick up the discounted, nearly dead ones, just to try and give them a chance to grow in the yard :P
On birthdays and holidays, I've picked up a bouquet or two, if only to pass out a flower or mini-bouquet to each of our guests.

However, vases seem to keep getting broke in this house! Grr. And the plastic ones keep getting given away with our bouquet gifts or used in candy bouquets and we forget to buy more lol So I wouldn't turn down even an empty one as a gift, since we seem to cycle through them so much. ;D

It is a special indulgence to get cut flowers. I guess I would like both cut flowers and a potted plant. Flowers just say so much and give a beautiful feeling to your enviroment.

potted plants, vases, flowers.... my wife would definitely say : can i have all of the above? haha.... more people nowadays prefer functionality over fashion-ality lol.... I would take and appreciate what ever they give to me as long as it's not a women's garment :)

Give me a potted plant any time. Then over the years i can look at it and think about who gave it to me. Besides cut flowers make me sneeze.

I love getting fresh flowers.  My daughter and son-in-law send flowers when they can't be with us for a special occasion.  It makes me feel very special!
