Key For Cash
« on: March 14, 2012, 06:49:57 pm »
I don't know if this is the right place to do this or if it's not allowed, which if it isn't, I apologize and will delete right away but has anyone used Key For Cash?

I signed up a few weeks ago and finally got approved but they required my Social Security #? Thoughts? Opinions? Has anyone used this website?

The first thought that occurs is that there is no valid reason why any online site would need you ssn#, (with the possible exception of W-2 requirements).  If that company is paying 'piecework' rates for data entry, you'd be an employee, (rather than a freelance consultant), and both you and Keys are required to pay social security, state and federal taxes on that earned income.  The only thing I've heard about the company is that it can be difficult to qualify through their screening process and due to a sudden spike in applications.

Yes I have not been asked for SSN at any site.. If so, don't give that.. I would not give.

I don't think you are supposed to discuss other earning sites in the forum.

I wasn't sure since it's not a PTC site. The website said they need it for tax reasons so they can send the right forms but I'm weary.

You could email them and ask them for their company tax identification number.  If provided, do an online search on that number to see if it corresponds to that company.

I'd sure think twice about giving my SSN regardless of why they say they need it.  That just doesn't sound right.  I think there's a Better Business Bureau for online business too, isn't there?  I'd see what I could find out about the company before I'd give that valuable piece of information.  Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Yep, I'd recommend thinking two or three times before parting with that number online.  Did you know that, even if a business is listed on the BBB, that it doesn't necessarily mean they're okay?  Regardless, when one applies for a job at any offline company, the applicant must provide their SSN to their employer for tax purposes.  My suggestion to the OP was to request the employer's tax payer ID# first in order to verify that they are at least a tax-paying employer.
