COMMON SENSE

I had a talk with a friend of mine discussing common sense and I would love to hear more opinions. Now if you had a mailbox and you had outgoing mail wouldn't common sense tell you to put the red handle up on the side of the mail box?  But what if you never had a mailbox with the red flag only the metal ones with the outgoing mail slot should that still be common sense. Does common sense boil down to how much you should know by a certain age? What is your meaning of common sense.

Common sense is defined by Merriam-Webster as, "sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts." Thus, "common sense" (in this view) equates to the knowledge and experience which most people already have, or which the person using the term believes that they do or should have. The Cambridge Dictionary defines it as, "the basic level of practical knowledge and judgment that we all need to help us live in a reasonable and safe way".

Common Sense, you either have it or you don't... it's not something taught in schools so I don't know it it can be a learned behavior...

Common sense is something that most are born with....but it takes time to figure it out.

This is a pragmatic concept which tends to vary from person-to-person.  At it's most basic level, common sense nominally involves a basis in the ability to reason; that what will vary between individuals.  Sometimes what gets called "common sense" is nowhere near it and other times, it can come from "the mouths of babes".
