Nicknames for grandparents.
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:27:09 am »
Do, or did you, have special names for your grandparents?  When I was very small, I strted calling my mother's parents Grummy and Pappas.  It stuck for the rest of their lives.  My grandather lived until he was 89 years old.  My granddaughter started calling me Somma and now all the kids and some of the adults and friends call me Somma.

I called my grandma on my moms side "Grannie Annie" but she passed away several years ago. I have only met my mothers dad once in my life so no nick names there. As for my grandparents on my dad side. I never really had any nicknames for them just grandma and grandpa.

My grandma and grandpa always signed everything Nana and Papa. I never like the nickname thing though. I always just called them grandma and grandpa. I never liked to shorten things, thats why I'm no good at short texts. ;D Ever since I was little I never liked people shortening my name either. I just never have been one for nicknames except for my hubbie.

My grandparents were Nana and Papa.  I always assumed my parents would be Nana and Papa too, but for some reason my mother has decided she wants to be Oma.  I'm not sure why.  We're as anglo as can be - no Germanic background at all.  Weird.

I always called my Grandparents, Grandpa and Grandma when I was growing up.  I always thought I wanted to be called Grandma when I became one. But my son-in-law started calling me Meemaw as a joke. I hated it at first now I love it and I don't even have grandkids yet.
