How Many People Use Home Remedies?
« on: February 17, 2012, 04:59:31 pm »
My mother has been using home remedies, such as using Black Tea with Cinnamon before each meal to help with her blood sugars. She also uses Magnesium when she has a headache or sour stomach. She thought me that there are other home remedies out there, some are not as nice as the others but work just as well. How many of you use home remedies to help with some of your problems?

Would you mind sharing with me? You might teach me a new trick I can take to my mother.

I stepped on a rusty nail once, and got blood poisoning.  My grandmother wrapped a piece of fatty bacon around the wound and it drew the infection out of my foot.

wow @ the bacon healing! i sprained my ankle once and my
granny took a brown grocery store bag, tore it into strips,
soaked them in vinegar, and molded them around my ankle.
the swelling was gone the next day...but man i smelled bad  :P

i love trying home remedies. i've been using diluted peroxide
with my toothpaste and i'm starting to see my gums getting
better. i thought i was starting to get gingivitis...

fresh aloe from an aloe vera plant is the best thing for a
sunburn! i'm a redhead, i should know  ;) my granny kept
one on her porch.

[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

I grew up with a mother who used home remedies and I find that I do the same with me and my kids.

Tin foil on a burn can help take the sting out.
Banana peel helps with planter's warts.
Honey as a cough remedy.

I've just ordered "Super Milk Thistle" for short term cleansing for my yellow labrador's liver disorder...many people have said it's helped their dog... so we'll see.

I love ginger tea for "digestive distress".  I have a problem with feeling nauseous alot (nerves), and the tea seems to help so much.

Organic Coconut oil:  I've just started taking some of this in tea/coffee to hopefully keep colds/flu at bay since it is very effective against a variety of infections due to its antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties.  I've used organic coconut oil in the past on cuts/infections and they heal up quickly.

I have used "home remedies" all my life...grew up with my mom using everything under the sun...tooooo many to list.  But the one thing I use most frequently is Witch Hazel...it's great fro SO many things...and so much cheaper than many of the pricey store remedies for things like bee stings, cold sores, razor burn, skin issues...etc...etc..

The peroxide is great for bad breath too.  My spouse had bad breath, and using it cleared it right up.

I had a fairly large cyst removed from my face, and I used Oxysilver (nano silver), Allicin-C aka Alligen, and aloe inside and out.  It healed the scar is barely noticable.

We are alternative all the way.

I burned my fingers once and this may sound gross, but it worked to take the sting away, egg.... some say just the whites, some just the yolk, but I found the whole egg scrambled helped. Also I hear egg whites make for a good wrinkle cream, if you can stand the feel on you skin.

I do have to say I find the home remedies much cheaper then going to the doctors or buying expensive creams.

I am a big supporter of home remedies. I use peppermint tea for upset stomach, a teaspoon of vinegar and honey once a day for good digestion and metabolism, a teaspoon of molasses in warm water for iron, slightly, warmed sweet oil for earaches (which is often caused by wax on sensitive ear drums), coke syrup for upset stomach, vinegar for sunburn, aloe for burns of any kind, duct tape is a wart starts, and probably lots of other things I can't think of now. Thanks for posting this subject. I'm looking forward to reading what others write!

Sometimes the home remedies are much better than the store items.

I think home remedies are remarkable.  Some of them sound really out there and I feel a little foolish for wanting to try them but the majority of the time they actually work.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a good all-around book of them?  Thanks
