Why are directions almost never right?

I tried to add money to the smart trip card (since now the government isn't giving enought to make it a full month but a little is better than none).  The instructions (which i read three times) tell you to go through one menu and that the add money should pop up on the right side.  I did exactly what they said and I saw no right hand menu.  I was so fustrated I ended up clicking everything and finally I got the right hand menu when I clicked on the card number.  Why didn't they just say click on the card to get the right hand menu?  The insutctions were like the menu should be there automatically.

Directions are often written by people that never use the item/website/chainsaw, what have you.

Also because so many items are manufactured in countries that speak a language different than yours, the instructions are often poorly translated.

Imagine trying to explain FusionCash in Mandarin.
