Homemade Pasta
« on: January 22, 2012, 04:08:54 pm »
OK, so I picked up a cheap little pasta machine at Salvation Army.
I feel so proud to be able to make flour and water turn into spaghetti :P lol
Still a bit intimidated to try the dumpling/ravioli bit. Playing with the shapes of the macaroni is just fun, ok?

But I'd really like to be able to do more well, "fancy" flavors and stuff. Like spinach/green spaghetti (second attempt at using it, so touch and go but we did eat that night!).

And it's surprisingly hard to google pasta recipes that are actual recipes for making the noodles (and not like a sauce. I know, I'm backwards lol But I'd just like to highlight the noodles, if possible!). Are there any good ones?

I did find a desert spaghetti - chocolate and strawberries! Sounds great, but I haven't tried it yet.

Would also be interested in any other nice simple recipes for pasta and sauces and stuffing mixtures and fried asian pasta things.
I'm very new to completely homemade from scratch cooking.

Hope you enjoy your pasta machine.  I refer to a few websites when I want to make something different.  You may want to try MrFood.com, Allrecipes.com or Cook.com  Not sure if anyone of these will help but it is worth a try.  Good luck!  I like to just visit these sites to see if anything catches my eye to try.

I hear making pasta is easy, is it really?
even without a pasta maker people say it's not all that complicated, but it sounds so intimidating

You’re very fortunate to be able buy one at a very good price. Besides the internet, maybe you can find books on pasta recipes at your local library? Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

I know what you mean - before I got the machine, as far as I knew the noodles were all made by magic (or grown on trees) and I was utterly shocked at how simple it really is.
You could absolutely make it without a machine - if you can get your rolling pin to make it thin enough to your liking. And if not, then you've got fat noodles or flat 'dumplings', but still food :P

Just try it! It really isn't complicated (not that that stops me from feeling unreasonably proud of myself.) ;D

i've never had homemade pasta! i'd love to try it.

i've actually been making zucchini ''pasta'' for a low carb
diet, which is delish! i just slice long and thin, then steam it
with some salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parmesan cheese.
super easy
