Self-employed people
« on: January 16, 2012, 05:19:40 am »
I just to see what others think about self employed people. I am trying to figure out if I can make a legitimate full time salary and the reason I am not able to do it now. Is it people just don't trust self-employed people or poor marketing or what?

Are you a self-employed person? If so, what do you do? How big is your company?

Do you or does your company use self-employed people (e.g. outsourcing)?

Do you think they have real jobs?

What do you think the best and worst self-employed jobs are?
I was lying in bed the other night, looking up at the stars, and thinking, "Where in the heck is my roof?"

I don't think it has anything with trusting self-employed people but marketing has a lot to do it.  Self-employment takes lot more commitment and work til you establish yourself.  I am not self employed but I wish to own my own business.

If you are on the internet there is no reason why you can not be self employed. Use what you know best, enjoy the most or can earn money. Find out how to market (sell) it on the net. Then you are self employed. Use the net or library for research. Do NOT pay anyone for the info. Later, you can sell how YOU did it on the net. Good luck. :)

I am self employed, I made the choice two years ago.  I am a freelance copywriter and editor and have a loyal client base.  Granted, I could not make it on my salary alone (IE: if my husband lost his job) but it is a great second income and I get to be home with the kiddos.   It takes a lot of discipline, there are days I do not want to work, but then I feel the pain on Fridays =)  On the plus side, I can work in my PJ's all day long!

The way this world is now, you need to be self employed. Can't trust your employers.

At the moment, I'm somewhere in between 'unemployed' and 'self-employed.'  I'm taking my talents and putting them to use by selling digital clip art, but I'm still in the planning progress.  I can't make a personal assessment on how lucrative it is to be self-employed, but from what I've seen there are plenty of people who make a decent living from it.  That is, of course, if you find something you enjoy and can make money off and are fully committed.

I consider myself partially retired and partially self employed.  I love computers so I spend time on my computer every day.  I have a lot of freedom so I can jump on and off whenever it feels right.

Obviously, some of my $$$ come from FusionCash but I also click on PTC ads and I get paid to post in forums.  I really like the lifestyle I have at this time in my life.

Have a great day!

I was self employed and making a happy life. Got a little side tracked, needed more motivation and to be more proactive. Which is easy to see after the fact. My business was home based and other people were doing it very well. Many only worked 20-30 hours per week and were full timers, with a monthly car bonus and great vacation trips. FusionCash will make that possible again and learning from your mistakes is a blessing. But running a real business takes learning all the major facets of promotion and marketing, which includes learning to sell. Thank you FusionCash!

I was self employed for many years.   In the mid 90's, I wrote web pages from home so that I could be home with my kids and still contribute to the household finances.    Later, when my son started school, I did fill in work as a licensed optician - going into offices to cover vacations and such when their optician was out.   Fortunately, I saw what was coming with the ecconomy and took a 'real' job in 2007 in order to ensure a steady income.   I will probably reopen OptiTemp when things even out, but for now I am paying the bills.

The thing to remember about being self employed, is that it is a JOB.   Many people fail because they don't get up, set normal business hours for work, and let themselves get side tracked by everything going on around them.   Whatever you decide to do, set up an office area, and make set work hours.  Don't put off your 'work' to go shopping with your friends or talk on the phone.  Make sure your friends know what your working hours are in order to keep personal calls to a minimum.

My husband and I are both self employed.  I have not found a connection between our success being related to trust as far as the comparison between us and larger companies.  I have found that our honesty has blessed us with the our regular customer base.  More $$$ naturally leads to more marketing...thus more leads to potential contracts.  Good luck to you and your endeavors.

People are concerned with being scammed and aren't comfortable taking a chance.  Getting involved with the right company and a good support team  are key issues.  Stepping out of that comfort zone, as in you know if you punch a time clock you will go to work and you will make x amount of money, and get paid regularly.  I like the idea of having that regular pay check, but, I also love the idea of being able to make that something extra.  If you stop and think about the amount of time you put into sites like fc. and the amount of money you make doing it.  You are working for pennies.  Now think if you put that same amount of time and effort into running your own business--the amount of money to be made goes up conciderably.
