Most people I know like the new Kindle. I still like to turn pages. Whichever one you chose, be sure to check with your local library as many offer free downloads of books.

I have a new Kindle Fire and love it.  So far I have downloaded over 100 books and they are all free.  There are sites that list the freebies.

I understand about progress and all that but I really love a good book the Libraries are trying to keep up by having books to download I still like to actually go to the library and go through the stacks to pick out books bring them all home and rest them on my nightstand waiting for my reading before bed, cozy and warm, relax and then sleep better than a kindle I think :sad1:

totally depends on what you are going to do with the product.  I love my Nook--not even the color option.  But I didn't purchase it in loo of magazines.  I really wanted it for the novel use.  It does have the internet option, but I don't use that feature.  The Kindle is great with the new options for Netflixs and other options....but it doesn't have sound control (one volume is what I read online).  The Kindle can also be finkle on turning on and off--the power button is easy to hit, etc (again per a review).
Love, love the Nook.  Sure the newest version is even cooler.
Still if just wanting to read, the basic version does the job and is cheaper.

I also love to read but for about the past year I LISTEN to my books on my mp3 player.  I download books from the local library and listen as i clean or sew.... great way to get knowledge or relax

@franlee  There is nothing like holding a book in your hands in the setting you described. I. too, love the exploration in a physical library, cozy reading in bed. As long as I am able to get to a library, I will. My daughter loves her Kindle Fire and as she is a very busy mother of 3 who recently 'got back into reading', that works best for her. I gave each of my grandsons book sets for Christmas as as relatively new readers they are fascinated with books. The point is, I guess, no matter the method love of reading is a prerequisite to becoming a well-rounded person.

Well, I have a Kindle, and it seems pretty neat, though I'm just getting used to it...can't really say much about the Nook though

I've had my kindle for almost 2 years.  I don't mind Amazon being my only choice of places to get books.  They have everything I want.  There are always 100 top sellers and 100 free books available.  Seems like a lot of the free ones have been on there forever but they do add new ones frequently.

My wife is hinting at wanting a nook and I really don't know much about them. It seems the kindle may be the better choice but something about the nook has her hooked... I just about pulled the trigger on one for her this christmas but didn't wanna buy the wrong thing, lol!

I guess you can't go wrong with the Kindle, Amazon is a juggernaut and are not in danger of going away anytime soon. The same can't be said for B&N who are primarily booksellers, and may join the same fate of Borders if book sales don't improve. Personally, I have an Aluratek E-reader which was very cheap & not the greatest, but it gets the job done.

I don't have either. (Maybe it's because I'm not such a reader. I use my phone and computer if I need to do any reading.) But I've seen the kindle (especially the Fire) has been looking pretty good, popularity wise. I'd go for the kindle.
