I realize that smart phones are convenient, but I can't bring myself to spend all that extra money per month for convenience. With my current plan, I am eligible to upgrade to a smart phone,  but then it would cost me at least an extra 40.00 a month, maybe more. And for some reason, you can't get an unlimited data plan with a smart phone, at least not from AT&T or Verizon.
Actually, I got the smart phone version from Walmart and it's only $45 +tax for unlimited EVERYTHING and it's no contract so if you can't afford it one month just don't get the card and if you go somewhere with free wifi you can still go online I think...and if I heard correctly you can still use an app called heytell and it's like free texting supposidly.

Well I am learning a lot right now. Boy can it be confusing. Did some one say they use their Kindle? Not like a phone though right? Anyway, it seems if you want the internet you pay more?

I've been thinking about getting a plan for either the Motorola Android Razr or the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with the two year plan.
The only good feature about the iPhone 4s is Siri, and Apple products are popular and known for their brand so they tend to get stolen much more often.
Also, the iPhone tends to get boring, if you've ever had an iPad or iPod ( I have both ).
But it is very hard to spend an extra 40 bucks on the plan. The smallest plan for me cost up to 70 dollars per month and my current phone (touchscreen basic)'s plan is 30$ per month. I just had cable internet installed at my house a few months ago and the speed is very fast. So, for now, I don't need a smartphone even though I am SOOOOO tempted every time I get close to one.   :angry7:

I will enjoy the day that I get my first smart phone, but that day isn't really close by.  For now I am sticking to the regular old phone so that I can keep my monthly bill down.  I hope you enjoy your phone.

I have the addiction! Started with a Blackberry and switched to iPhone on my son's plan because he works for AT&T after my Blackberry Bold started dropping calls. Never had any problems with the Blackberry Curve.

There are TONS of free apps.. I have only paid for 1 app and I use it all the time for editing my pictures. It does cost more for a smart phone on your monthly bill but if so happen you can't pay your bill that month your phone is not completly useless as long as u have WI-FI. Right now my phone is unserviced and I can still do everything except call out. There is also a free texting app called "HeyWire" which I use when my phones off.. I have tmoblie and even when my phone is shut off I can still get incoming calls and texts.

You guys sound like you pay too much for your smart phone service. I have an android phone and I pay only 40.00 a month
with Simple Mobile. It is unlimited Nationwide Talk, Text and Web. By the way Simple Mobile runs off of T-Mobile towers.

Great Information, so I hope this thread keeps going. I am concerned about battery life though. And once the battery is used up do you have to send the whole damn phone in? Just to get a new Battery?
