Skin Bleaching-Why?
« on: January 16, 2009, 09:48:59 am »
I'm watching Tyra right now and they are talking about women of color that bleach their skin. My question is why and would you do it? I must admit that I have used skin bleach to try and get rid of my freckles but it didn't work and now I actually kind of like them. I know society has created this image of what is beautiful but would you do something extreme to try and fit in to what that image supposedly is?

^^its all about fiting in , wanted to be wanted by a group of people or basically more attention , now i use noxzima i dont know if thats bleaching or not , ? i only use it to keep down a break out of pimples , but these women washing their faces with bare bleach and doing all that non sense is kinda nuts , and they dont even look lighter they look like some one slaped a spot of bleach in their faces , and their faces are all blotchy ..like their complextion is un even ...if anything they look really stupid doing it .

I've use skin bleaching creams, but it wasn't to change the color of my skin like the girls on the Tyra Show. I did it because I had acne and it left me with these brown spots where my acne was at. I just wanted them to go away so I can have an even complextion. I think its sad that those girls are embarrased of their skin color.

First, I had the same thought..does it hurt?

Second, I'm not a woman of color so I don't know why they'd do it but I'm guessing it's to fit into what society calls normal.   :dontknow:

I do know there is a disorder in people, black..white..or purple, that makes you hate your own race.

It probably does hurt  and burn because the stuff their using is probably illegal or from another country. Plus your not suppose to put in on that much like they do. They slather that stuff on like if its regular lotion. CRAZY.

Well using all of this products will result in cancer. That is why most of these celebrity always have some kind of skin problem because they use all kind of different stuff in order to look younger.

I am a natural blonde and VERY fair complected as it is, so, no I wouldn't use the skin bleaching. But, I do use the fake tan in a bottle when I wear shorts to keep from blinding anyone else in the sun.  ;D

Well, did the women state their reasons for doing this?

would you do it? would you do something extreme to try and fit in to what that image supposedly is?
No but I don't think that is an issue for most people who have lived long enough in a materialistic society to be conditioned to accept its standards of 'beauty.'

Most likely they do it to feel better and more confident about themselves.

Its got to be a confidence thing.
I would never do it. I love the way God made me imperfections and all

I do know a few dark skinned colored girls that did bleach their skin. It is silly and I am not sure why they did it, but they do seem happier with themselves now that they have a lighter complexion.  :-

I think skin bleaching is awful. There is nothing wrong with having dark skin. I am a reaaaaaal white irish woman, who would love to have that beautiful skin.
