Well,to make this long story short,I recieved a work from home letter in the mail to be a "Mystery Shopper". Well,the check that they sent me was bogus,which I didn't know. I had already deposited the check and now even though I didn't spend any of the money,"Bank of America" closed my account. I think this is so messed up,seeming I didn't know and I didn't spend any money. So,no one lost out on money. Do you guy's think that this is right what they did? If you think so or don't,I would love hearing from you. I don't mind taking criticism. Thanks

Don't feel bad, it has happened to me as well.  Except the bank did not close my account.  I had both a checking and a savings.  The lady who runs the bank suggested me to put in my savings and wait 30 days to see if it would be ok or not.  She said if it was legit it would go through in 14 days, but if not the bank would charge me $5 for the check bouncing (which is a whole lot better than the $2400 they sent to me) Unfortunately it bounced, but was grateful for just the $5 charge.  The "company" wanted me to put the check in, wait 2 days, withdraw it and then Western Union it to another address (keeping $200 for doing the "job").

sorry that happened. it makes no sense to me why they would close the account. I'd be speaking to a manager there. How are you supposed to know it's not legit. And, it's not like they were conned out of any money.

I got scammed like that too they said I would win a lottery worth 80,000 and I deposited the check that they sent me worth over 2,000 and to call them once it cleared and Bank of America froze my account and closed my accoutn as well

i must play devils advocate with this topic. If you get a check in the mail and have done nothing to earn it. That should throw up a red flag. I have gotten the checks in the mail, and have thrown them in the trash. "if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is"

It is amazing how many people get scammed.  You really need you head examined to accept an unsolicited check for thousands of dollars and do anything with it other than put it in the shredder.  If people could think beyond the 'free money' they just got in the mail the scams would just go away.  A sucker born every minute.

If you get a check they want you to cash and keep some money and then send them sum they are fake!! I played the game
onetime, as soon as I got the Money Order in the mail. I ran straight to the Post Office, and showed them the fake MO. We reported it, let them have the MO's so they could try to track them!!

I'm sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately if something's too good to be true, well, it usually is. I've gotten one of those fake checks before.

As someone who works for a bank, I have to tell you that's standard procedure. It's actually to protect you.

In the case of most scams with false checks, people also give out their account information to the scamming party or try to complete a wire transfer using an outside service. If you had taken out any of that money, you would then owe the bank back because technically, it was never good money to begin with.

It's so so so important to verify every offer you ever get. Even a simple Google search of the company usually lets you know whether its a scam or not.

You have to be real careful with those. I have received them myself. I do mystery shopping and there are many legit companies out there. I work for 30+ companies that pay with no problem. Any time someone sends you a check like that then it is bogus.

Always be cautious when receiving something for nothing.  There is usually a catch to it.  There aren't that many good people out there doing good deeds of sending money to people out of the goodness of their hearts.

Im sorry this happen to you, but dont be discourage their are a lot of great Shops out their and do pay.

I'm grateful for your post...I've been getting those E-mails too. I've ignored them, but now I will flag them as spam. So thank you for the heads up!!
