Hi,
Black Friday is the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Retailers want to make money. If they make money they are in the "black"" versus if they lose money. In the "red". Red and black in the sense are  slag accounting terms

Hope this helps.
Have a great day. :peace:

In my opinion they call it black friday because there is always a chance it can become black for some people. There are lots of mobs and people get hurt and even get killed. You have to have either a clear head or a screw loose to go shopping on that day. Stick with the internet.

Did anyone here on FC get in on any of that "Black Friday Walmart Action" or is everyone just doing their Christmas shopping online like me?   :D

I didn't know the answer to this either, thank you pkr. I always thought it was because you would most likely come out with a black eye if you ventured in to the craziness of Black Friday.

Haven't a clue, just know I don't want to go near a mall or store. No bargain is worth the stress or crowd

I wasn't sure until this. But I used to think of it as a joke saying "black Friday" because I usually associate it with "black market" when everything is overpriced, then "black Friday" is the same thing, only the opposite, everything is cheaper. (guess my thinking was wrong)

Online all the way! There are only a few things I actually have to go into a brick and mortar store to get because they are specialty items not sold online. I have neither the time nor the desire to enter into all the madness out there. I do NOT like to shop anyway, am a lousy 'browser/window shopper' unless I am in a different city with stores I have never been to. The advent of the online shopping revolution was a life and sanity saver for me, period. ;)

That's for sure. Black Friday is one day I don't go anywhere near any stores if I can possibly help it. A friend of mine went to Walmart that day, and said there were people fistfighting, and stealing things from each other's carts. The so called bargains are usually just come-ons anyway, since they don't have nearly enough of the items for the people that want them. It isn't worth the agravation and stress. Most things you can get for the same price online anyway, even if they don't tell you that.
