Anyone tried the E-Cig ? Looking for personal input!
« on: November 15, 2011, 12:31:59 am »
My husband and I are trying to quit smoking. He has been smoking for 43 years and has tried the patch and not getting very far. We were seeing the e cigatettes and looking for personal opinions on the matter. Anyone here ever tried it? If so how did it work? I will be curious to see everyones opinions.

We've tried the Smoke Assist e-cigarette.  The regular flavor is alright, (not a strong taste in any 'flavor'), and the water vapor does give the visual cue of smoking - along with a tip that glows upon inhaling.  Surprisingly, my girlfriend's respiratory doctor recommended the e-cig.s as a beneficial breathing therapy.  Not everyone cottons to them, however.  I did find a local tobacco shop which custom blends flavors to customer specs, (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, Kahlua, etc.), so we may test a few out.  These are liquid flavorings for which I'd need to determine the chemical compositions before making any recommendations.

Some of these e-cig, filters contain nicotine and some don't.  If that's the key to quiting tobacco for someone, make sure the ones you get have that option.  Prices seem to range from $20 to $250 U.S., depending upon the type of charger, (ours use the USB port on the laptops), and number of refill filters provided.  Those refills can run from $15-$25 U.S., depending on the manufacturer.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Yes, I have tried the e-cigarette. I find it helpful at times and am using it now. I bought mine at 7-11 cause it is so much cheaper than a lot of places. You do need to be careful at first and not take real deep puffe. Good luck to you.

I have not personally tried it, but my sister and brother-in-law have.  It seems to work ok, but I think the problem is the person themself.  You got to have the will power to quit before any type of help quitting smoking will work.  I have tried to quit multiple times, but so far have failed.
