Phobias anyone?
« on: November 10, 2011, 10:25:40 pm »
A phobia is an irrational fear of an object or situation. We all fear things and that is normal, but at what point do you know you have an irrational fear? Anyone phobic of anything?

Yes I do.  I cannot stand the sight of a BAT.  Of course I mean the one that has wings and hangs upside down.  Don't know why, but always have been.  Even on TV if I see one, I have to close my eyes.  The sight of them gives me the hebby jebbies.  LOL

I'm afraid of stairs that have the hollow undersides, like the ones at waterparks.  Even though I know they're safe, my heart starts to race and my hands and legs start to shake when I'm on them.

Wel, I guess my fear is pretty normal. I have a fear of heights.

I have a fear of snakes.  My mom was over the top fearful so I grew up with being scared myself.  Even seeing them in pictures, tv, behind glass I would freak. I still don't like them, but try not to be so sensitive.  Snakes look evil to me and remind me of the devil from The Garden that tempted Adam and Eve.  just cold blooded, evil animals!  Yuck!!!

Me too!  When I was a kid, I went to camp and we always went to lookout towers that had those open stairs.  They are SPOOKY!  I was ok once I got up to the top but going up was a nightmare.

I have an irrational fear of balloons. Not the mylar foil type, just the rubber/latex ones. I'm always afraid that they're going to pop, so whenever I see someone holding one, or playing with one, I keep away from it and have my ears plugged until it's gone.
I'm also afraid of heights, dogs, bugs, public restrooms, and being alone in public.

I hate clowns and ventriloquist dolls. They've always spooked me. The exception is when little kids do a little clown makeup and I'm not as bothered.

hmm, although its so cliche, i have to say spiders.
i also have a fear of disappearing or going missing.
(i watch way too many unsolved mysteries-type shows!)

skin diseases/or just plain skin weirdness
creeps me out too. not so much a phobia, but
they send shivers up my spine.
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

Birds and bats.  Especially bats.  In my last house, we would occasionally have a bat.  Thank goodness this house doesn't have any.  Last week, when I was at the grocery store, a bird flew out of the shelves, right in front of me.  I about croaked right there!  I can't even be in someone's house if they have a bird that is out of a cage!

I have anxiety issues, so i am nervous about a lot of different things, like driving/crossing the street/etc. I think the only actual 'phobias' i have would be the dark, but it has to be completely dark. I'll freeze up and won't be able to move, i will just stop and sit where i am until the lights turn on :x.

Oh, and claustrophobia, i HATE being in tight places, or restrained, it freaks me out!!

I am afraid of jumping off of high places, but I actually love heights.  I love to fly, but when atop a building or such I feel the urge to throw myself off and sometimes catch my mind wandering as I move closer to the edge.  I don't know if that is what most people consider a fear of heights, but I suspect it might be different.
There are only 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary, and those who don't.
