Got a $2500 check.

Most banks can run the check through a scanner they have to determine if the account and routing numbers are legit and will tell you before you even try to deposit it. Then you should take it to the post office and there is another form to fill out there, They very rarely get enough info to do anything about the scammers, but if you are willing to take the time, who knows, it might help someone else. I used to get these a lot and just put them through my shredder after the second batch. Finally thank goodness I am no longer on those mailing lists. But if they were able to catch them it would be mail fraud, interestingly and not a banking violation. Isn't that  kicker? I suppose if one got a lot of them they could be used for wallpaper just as something to laugh at.

I got the same check a few years ago. It had the same bank name on it and it was definitely a scam. Mine did come with instructions and I could tell immediately it was a scam. I was in the military, so I took it to the financial officer and he called numbers and determined it was a scam.

Yea I got 1 of those to and its a scam It was for mystery shopping.....Glad i didnt cash it or I would be in jail also.....

Im glad i saw this, now i know that they are scams, got 2 mystery shop checks myself. But they would always say to do it within 24 hrs, not worth it lol

Pure scam.  Don't cash it, destroy the check.  Nothing good will come from you attempting to cash the check.

Don't cash the check. you will end up with more trouble than you bargained for. lots of people get caught up in this mess especially now with the economy the way it is, people are more vulnerable to fall for these schemes. If it was from a legitimate source you would be aware of who was sending it to you and wouldn't be asking for our opinion about the check.

After perusing the responses, my gut instinct tells me this is a scam.

I'm going to shred it.

I imagine you've already shredded the check by now, but just out of curiosity I Googled "Baker Hughes, Inc" and they are an oilfield service company. Here is the contact page from their website....even has the same address that was on the check you received...........

Maybe you should contact them directly and ask them about the check. If it is indeed a scam, they definitely need to know that someone is using their company name for fraudulent reasons. You could email them the image that you posted here. Heck, maybe it was a big, fat stock payment or something!!
