Ever zoned out while reading?
« on: November 07, 2011, 08:15:34 pm »
I read to my son at night before bed and sometimes the book is all of the sudden over -- I read it to him while my thoughts wondered.  It's weird how we are able to do that.  And I know it's not because I've read the book SO many times, because it's actually happened to be during a Daniel Steele book I was reading.

Maybe not so much for me in reading (I do daydream and have to re-read something afterwards), but unfortunately this has become a habit for me in many other things - particularly repetitious or routine things (i.e. morning breakfast, driving). If this was a new read do you happen to remember anything at all about the story? Maybe reading to your son is just second nature and the goal is for the comfort process and not so much for you to analyze the story.

I've done that but I normally read the same paragraph over and over. I've never finished a book while not thinking about it.

i know sometimes when i would be up late at night reading i would tend to zone out. then i would have to get myself focused back to reading. usually i would become the character in the book and play out the scenes in my head.

I've zoned out at times while driving the car. Somehow, the car knows where to go. If you have a lot of errands to run or thinking of other things, it's easy to not pay attention when you are driving. I have zoned out reading also, and like others had to read the same paragraph over and over. If it happens too many times, then I know that reading at that moment is not a good idea because my concentration is nil. I have problems doing knitting or crocheting and watching a video at the same time.

That could be extremely dangerous.

The car does not possess consciousness and doesn't know where to go; that'd be the semi-aware driver.  It is such semi-aware drivers who aren't paying attention and are responsible for a large number of car accidents.  Not only are they a danger to others, they are a danger to themselves.  The police term this as "reckless driving".
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

That's called pondering and if you want to get more focus on things you can try some herbal supplements if your doctor is ok with them.

If I'm really into it then I don't find myself zoning out but if I really cant concentrate and read the same thing over and over again then I know it's time for a break

Thats funny, I always zone out when I am reading, it seems strange to me, but I figure I am real comfortable when I am reading, so thats why it must happen.

Never zoned out a book, but if I'm reading, everything else seems to disappear.  I'll be reading, stop for one reason or another, and be like "wow, that much time passed...?"

Oh for goodness sake grow up!  "The car knows where to go" was a joke! However, you have once again followed me into a thread just to administer another sarcastic put down. Don't you have better things to do?

Like.......go soak your head!
