Would you be offended if?
« on: November 07, 2011, 10:17:19 am »
I am a cashier and we have to push sales and sometimes the customer will be like, "oh, you asked me yesterday" -- I always feel super bad for not remembering the person but I see so many faces it's hard to keep track of who's who and who I've asked.  If you were my customer would it bother you if I didn't remember you or do you think most people understand or don't expect you to?

My goodness no. You have the most difficult job of being in Customer Service to begin with. I do get offended when I call my local phone company about a problem, and right off the bat they start trying to hard sell me with extra services. If you are told by your boss to push sales, then you have to push sales. Your only doing your job.

hey, they could have changed their mind since yesterday.  Besides, it's your job, so just smile and if they want to get rude, it's their day they are ruining, not yours.

To be honest I'm always really surprised if a cashier at say the grocery store remembers me unless I have been going through their line once a week for 6 months or more. LOL So no I wouldn't be offended. :)

At work a couple of weeks ago I had a guest come in and I was selling to her and took a peek at the pictures that she had purchased two weeks ago and discovered that *I* had been the photographer. I felt horrible about that one and she just laughed and said well you see lots of people. I'm still surprised at myself though because I am particularly good with faces. I may not remember your name but I usually know if I have seen you before and within 2 weeks...sheesh!

For the most part I do think that people realize that we are coached to offer whatever it is to EVERY customer/guest regardless of whether they have turned it down before or not. :)

Of course not!  :) It’s too minor to take offense over such little things. There are too many customers that come and go. Unless you see the same regular customers that frequently shop where you work, you will recognize them. As long as you sincerely do your best with no bad intention, why feel so bad about it?  :)

Probably not.  I understand what your dealing with.  I work at a restaraunt, mostly answering the phone.  We have to answer the phone a certain way and OMG the silly things they have us say.  The poor person on the other end of the phone, sits listening through this big speach before they can place their order.  We had better say it, just incase corporate is listening.  I can't get through the speach without laughing.  Can't wait till I get caught doing it wrong. ;D

I wouldn't be offended. It's something the boss makes you do.Many is the time I'll go to a cashier and although they know I've refused previously, they still have to give their sales spiel.I just smile politely until they finish and then politely decline whatever is being offered. No biggie. :)

Google JediJohnnie and May the Force be with you!

I wouldn't be offended.  I think people generally understand that it's hard to remember what you've said to everyone.  I wouldn't even expect someone I knew to necessarily remember what they've asked me when it's something you have to say all the time.

hey I like that thanks..I'll use that as a joke to maybe get their mind away from the fact that I forgot them in the first place..
