I hate when others say "everything happens for a reason"

Now just wtf does that mean? Are our lives controlled by fate?

So if i was gonna die at 75 i wouldnt need to buy life insurance till i was 74?

Or if i decided to just smash my car intentionally into a wall 1 night would the reason be i was a stupid jerk?Obviously.

That has to be 1 of the dumbest if not the dumbest saying.

I told my wife to run up all the credit cards cos we are gonna hit lotto soon......

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time has nothing to do with it......it happened for a reason....what a joke!

Well now, welcome back, hitch.  I have no doubt that you'll provide us all with your characteristically comical and entertaining remarks.  We've missed you and your zany humor.

Yep.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

"Told his wife to run up all his credit cards," because he expects a sure win in the lottery.  I must say, that's a particularly prudent and intelligent financial decision to make, I might be able to learn a few things from his financial planning strategies.

Well if your comment was sincere Alaric.....thank you

I dont think i need to explain the running up credit cards routine with "everything happens for a reason post".....and since when did that stop most of the country anyway from getting into debt?

Well, you actually do need to explain because I don't understand the concept of "debt."  I have two properties, one I live in and one I rent out, both mortgages have been fully paid for years now.  I have 2 cars, a 2006 Kia and a 2009 Toyota Camry, I paid cash for both of them; actually, I used a check, but it's basically the same thing.  I don't owe anything on any credit card, I pay those bills off every month.  I have no other debts of any kind, on the contrary, people owe me money.

You may have some experience, perhaps even problems with debt, but there are some of us out here who have managed to avoid debt.  ....and I'm not a rich man, I live on my military retirement pay, rental income and my wife chose to take a part time job, even though I told her she didn't need to work.  Still, I was able to retire at age 57, good luck to you, my friend, accomplishing the same thing.

Thank you for your very laudatory response.

When I came back to the US, about 2 !/2 years ago, I would have people telling me they own two cars.  You find out they have loans on both and have one 15% paid off and the other 25%, so I'm thinking, "you don't own 2 cars, you own about 40% of one car, the bank owns the rest."  It's the same with a house, they tell you they own a place, but they still have to pay a bank for 10 or 20 years before they actually own the place.

This is the kind of attitude that allows you, in fact, the entire country, to live with the acceptance of the normalcy of debt.  It's totally irresponsible and it can bankrupt your country and destroy your comfortable lifestyle, but keep on charging, the lottery will take care of the debts you accumulate.

My biggest pet peeve is people on the forums who are constantly correcting others. I understand that there are many different opinions on topics, but some people act like their ideas are the only ones with merit. Also those people tend to start arguements over minute differences that drive me CRAZY!

I agree.  Live and let live.  :peace:  :peace:  If everyone was the same nothing would get done.  Besides the forum is supposed to be fun and that just makes for a hostile environment.   :angry7:

I also don't like people who waste my time getting my attention to to state the obvious.  It's stupid and annoying.   :bs:

One of my biggest pet peevs is noisy neighbors. Especially, when it interfers with my sleep. Rude neigbors and noisy neighbors.

What one thing makes you frustrated the most?
My biggest pet peeve is repeating myself. If I have to repeat myself, it makes me think the other person did not think enough of me to listen the first time.

You are absolutely right about people owning 40% of a car or a house. But you know what?  In America, you NEVER entirely own your house or land. The government does.  If you don't pay your property taxes, they can take it all away.

Btw, congratulations on being debt-free!  It must be a good feeling.
I'm sorry if my recondite verbiage is a little difficult to understand sometimes.  Using fancy vocabulary really is fun, you should try it!

The pet peeve that comes to mind is when people won't use their turn signals while driving (if they want to use them when they are not driving--I won't care.)  I'm supposed to just KNOW when you are about to turn?  Really?  On the other hand:  are you making a right turn around the world and that's why your signal is still going?  Petty, I guess, but--there it is.
