My German shepherd which has black fur is named Mocha.  I was all for Cocoa when we named her though.  Might want to go with something along those lines.

I don't know about Black bear. I mean there's bears that are different colors too. Anyway, I had a black lab once & we named him DOMINO. You know, the black part of domino cube.

Another suggestion is to call him whitey & see what other people's reactions are. LoL...
