I find it crazy and Ironic that our children can use cell phones and ipods, mp3 and other electronic devices in and on school property but children cannot have a single conversation or mentioning of Jesus Christ while on school property nor do they teach anything about Christ, but is aware of all the new and used electronics on the market.

Not sure how it is where you live, but my younger brothers can't have any electronic devices out during school hours (unless it's an emergency).  Also, there's a christian club at the high school one of my brothers attends, just like there was a christian club at the high school I attended.

If parents want their kids to learn about Christianity, take them to church or a christian school, or (here's a crazy idea) teach their kids about Christianity themselves.  Don't expect public schools to teach your religion for you; otherwise they would have to have a class devoted to all religions, as the government can't legally single out one religion to be taught above others.

And as for technology, school would NOT be the place to find out the latest in greatest in electronics.  It's easy to find that information on the internet, and any kids that don't have the internet can easily find it out from friends/family.

It's called separation of church and state.  Ever heard of it?  Not everyone is Christian or believes in your bible or your god.  Why don't they teach about Mohammed, Bhuddha, Vishnu, Kali, Haile Selassie?  You want your children to know Christ you teach them don't expect the schools to it's not their job.

You can talk about Christ 24/7 if you want in your house.  If you don't like what the public schools are teaching you don't have to send your kids there.  Put them in a private religious school or home school them.  You have other options.

Just my opinion but I don't believe it's public school's responsibility to teach my child about his religion. I bring him to church every Sunday and he starts Catholic school next week. That is up to me as a parent to make sure he learns about God. As for having cell phones, etc, in school., here in CT I know most schools are strict about NOT allowing kids to have them during class.

Here in Michigan where my kids go to school, they are not allowed to have cellphones visible during school or they lose them.
Secondly, kids can talk about Jesus all they want to their friends between class. The separation of church and state applies to public school employees trying to force fairy tales down children's throats against their parents wishes. If the kids want to talk about Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny or Jesus on their free time that's their own business. My first grade daughter and her friends talk about Tinkerbell in their free time, for example.
Thirdly, school kids have seen mp3 players and ipods and cell phones. What would they have to say about god? If all these numerous Christian churches who all have a direct line to god and are all different but right and everyone else is wrong, would tell people their god comes in a vibrant color, like blue or something, then maybe the kids would be interested in it more. The might like to listen and discuss the virtues of Jesus Catholic V1.2 or the Jesus 1.3 Methodist Model. Maybe they will want to show off their new hot pink Jesus.
Or better yet, if you really want to get school kids hearing about Jesus, leave the schools alone and go get Jesus a smartphone and show him how to text and get on FB.

I was enrolled in "one of new england's best and most promising public school systems" for 9 years. I didn't lean a thing. I was harassed, and ended up dropping out. The next year I started my freshman year of high school over at a private catholic school (i'm not catholic). That was the best experience of my entire life. If it wasn't for that school I wouldn't be where i am today. I dislike public schools, and will never send a child of mine to one.

Which is more important, Christ or having a cell phone?

To answer this question, I'll counter with my own question: Which is more useful during an emergency, Christ or having a cell phone?

Having a cell phone, of course.  The ambulance isn't going to come if you pray.

Technology can be used in a number of ways. Sure, it can be used to waste time and money. But it can be used to help people, to call the police in an emergency, to educate and make life easier, and to stay connected to the world. Religion can only be used to incline that superstitious are true and make people believe in things that are not possible. This can only be used to control other peoples actions though coercion and cause others to loose interest in learning anything real or practical. Even if whoever is causing this to occur has nothing but good intentions.

You can have conversations about any religious figure in schools. You can also teach about religions in school. It's the pushing of a specific religious doctrine that's the problem-- you're not allowed to do that and I think that's completely understandable.

Cellphone usage is complete unacceptable during school though and teachers and faculty are extremely *bleep* about it, so the reality of your argument is backwards.

Nothing else, in my opinion or belief, is as important as a relationship with Christ and putting him as your number one priority above anything or anybody else.

Each has their place, Christ is who we look to all the time for unconditional love and a cell phone just keeps us physically in touch with other humans...

I, too, am saddened that Christ has been removed from our schools.
