Bed Times for children: Summer v. school
« on: August 15, 2011, 09:20:02 pm »
School will start in 2 weeks here in Greensboro and my daughter is eager to begin middle school. But she is not going to be excited about the school schedule, considering that she went to bed at 11pm and slept until 11am during the summer. Apparently she needs the 12 hours that her body is enjoying for the summer. I told her that she would have to go to sleep by 7pm to get those hours during school days. We are trying to get her revved up for the school year and build excitement by starting the school schedule this week. Its more like a preliminary run of the school year. Its already going to be stressful going to a new school, new schedules, and new students. Maybe this will take away some of the exhaustion.

I had three children and they all had different bed times.  The youngest went to bed at 8pm, middle child went to bed at 8:30pm and my olderst was 9pm, once they hit high school they all had to be in bed by 10 exsept on weekends.

i think bedtimes for shcool and summer should be the same so its not hard to get used to school schedules. our bedtime is 9pm all the time

During the summer my kids have no bedtime.  But now that we are getting ready for school to start we try to go to bed a little earlier every night.  However, the only way this works is if I also wake them up a little earlier every day too.

Well during the summer months if they were really good we would let them stay up till 10 no later. School days My daughter who is 7 and in 2nd grade now goes to bed at 7:30/8 o'clock it takes her forever to fall asleep. My sons who are to young for school go to bed after she falls asleep or at the same time depending on there moods for the day.

i think if its the summer and the kid doesnt have to go anywhere the next day than they should be able to go to bed whenever they want but if its the school time than ages 3-9(pre-k- 5th grade) hould go to bed at 8pm, ages 10-14(6th grade-8th grade) should go to bed at 9pm, and ages 15-17(9th grade- 12th grade)should go to bed whenever as long as they get up the next day if they dont get up the next day than they should go to bed at 10pm
