Save the trees!!!!!!   Paper plates require cuttings down trees!   Mother Earth needs trees  And paper plates cannot be recycled; the paper will have to be burned, adding to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Quite the conundrum.  If you don't use dishes then you have trash which is adding to landfills.  I have a dishwasher and have still used paper plates every now and then for company or other reasons.  If you use paper plates you have to think about the trees cut down unless it's recycled material.  Some disposable plates are less biodegradable.  Perhaps I'm over analyzing this.  Do whatever you want, the earth will be uninhabitable in 200 years anyway.

Hey, that makes me sad for my grandchildren  :'( I love my kids but with the cruel world we live in, sometimes I'd think I would have been a better mother if I never brought them into this horrible place.

I know what you mean!!!!  :angry7: I came up with a solution with that problem a couple of years ago, since I STILL don't have a dishwasher.
What I do is I clean the dishes one at a time. After each meal, or even if I just dirty up a cup or one fork or spoon, I go ahead and wash it, this way, the dishes never pile up and by the end of the day I don't have as much to do. What you can do is also is fill a small bowl with some dish detergent with hot soapy water, that way when you do the dishes you don't have to fill up your sink and waste a lot of dish soap. This works for me every time!! Hope this helps you some.

Well I really do try to do that but before I know it they pile up and get out of control.  I have a family of 4, including myself, and I just can't believe the amount of dishes we use.  I do do my dishes weird, though, I used to fill the sink up but now I just scrub one dish at a time and wash with hot water, I don't think it's much clean all those dishes sitting in dirty water to be washed.

THe only times I use paper plates is when we are sick.  Easy to burn these (yes we do burn our paper trash here) to get rid of the germs than to trust to the washer.  Other time is when we are low on water and can't do dishes by hand.  Rural life is a blast.

I prefer dishes instead of paper plates for two reasons. First they are not environmentally friendly and second they are very expensive. The only time I really use paper plates is for a large party and is being held outside. :peace:

I do use paper plates quite often.  I have those plastic holders for the plates.  If they are flimsy, I may use two.  I have some heavy duty ones for meat that has to be cut or for things with lots of sauce.

In the summer I tend to buy more paper plates. It's easier especially since my kids are home and also my teenage daughter hates to do dishes . I pick paper plates anytime over using my own dishes, their quick and easy clean up  ;).
