Anyone living hundreds of miles away from any of your relatives??

My closest relatives live 12 hours away and my mom and dad live a full 23 hours. I envy those that live just blocks away! What do you do to keep in touch and how often do you visit??? For those that live far away that is.

I live in Forest Grove, OR and my son's family is on Charlotte, NC with 2 of my grandkids and one in the oven, but we both have Skype and his wive takes lots of pictures and videos.

I feel you i live in chicago and my dad stepmom brother and sisters live in texas and almost the rest of my family lives about 3 hours away its very hard i am also very jealous of other people my best friend has like all her family within like 5 minutes away they all live close and see each other on a daily basis one actually lives on the same street !!! how crazy is that i just wish i did not have to get on a plane everytime i want to see my immediate family

Not any more but i used to.  let me just say this... if you live far enough away that you are going to get on a plane to see them, then it's all relative.  700 miles is the same as 2,500

I live 500+ miles away from every single member of my family, and at least 450 miles away from every member of my fiance's family.  I use skype sometimes, or instant messaging or emails, or sometimes I'll just call them.  For a few of my family members (my sister and her husband, my Da, my younger brothers, and one of my cousins), I use World of Warcraft to chat with them since we all play it (though I don't play much anymore).

my whole family is in POLAND.i am here for more than 10 yrs.i missed them so much!!!
is hard but at the same time i can tell i do a lot ,not afraid of being here and try different things.
i have double citizenship-POLISH-AMERICAN and i am proud of it!

All of my family live close to Nashville, TN. I now live in Houston, TX a good 15 hour drive. Yet it is closer than other places I have lived in last three years which are Portland, OR and Duluth MN. I do miss my family a lot but I have been happier here in TX than I have been any where else.

My son and grandson live about 5 hours away and another son lives about 6 or 7 hours away.  My granddaughter lives about 14 hours away.  I miss them all!

my mom and my sister live thousands of miles. 15 hours flight! I miss them and especially my parents.

I live closer than I ever have before... 6 hours to my dads and 5 hours to my moms. I used to be 15 hours away, but moved a few years ago and am closer.

I was never really bothered being so far away from them until I had kids and I knew it was hard when I was growing up not being around family. My dad was in the military and we were not stationed near  family so my mom takes it hard. She didnt get to have family around while we were growing up and she hates not being near us while my little ones are growing up. Plane tickets are expensive and for a hard working husband and stay at home mom its just not in the budget plan. My husband lost his job when I was pregnant with my first son and it took almost a year and a half to get another job. I worked during this time but once I got pregnant with our second I had to stop working at 6 months because I went into pre-term labor but luckily he had found a better job a few months prior to where I could stay home. It would just be so nice to have a family member close by to not so much help but more so for support I guess is what Im thinking. I am way jealous of friends as well that have family minutes away.

I agree so much with you.. i envy those that live right around the corner.. my parents live 22 hours from me.. and my mother in law well she's only an hour.. but even that is hard.. my closest is my brother.. and seems i see him less that my mother in law... i haven't seen my parents since aug of 09.. and my mother in law we try and visit as often as we can.. but it seems the older she gets the more involved she gets with her life so it makes it hard to mesh schedules.. I use skype with my parents so they can see their granddaughter and of course the phone.. but it works.. not what i really want but is what i have to do..
