What do atheists say instead of "Oh my God?"
I was lying in bed the other night, looking up at the stars, and thinking, "Where in the heck is my roof?"

Oh they still say it, they are just clouded with darkness, that they don't understand what they are saying.

Well, since you're asking atheist questions...I have one.  A few weeks ago a BIG windstorm went through the area and many of the huge (some were 50 years old) trees were uprooted and some landed in the streets, on peoples cars, garages & houses.  I'm hearing that some people's insurance companies are refusing coverage saying it falls under their "act of God" clause.  How can insurance companies legally enforce this clause with atheists?  :dontknow:

I don't play favorites -- I include a variety of imaginary deities when I use their names in vain.  :P

LOVE THIS!!!!

I have had to be a little more creative recently since my 3-year-old has started mimicking everything I say. Since "oh my god" could be seen as offensive to some I don't really want him going to Kinder with that as a given in his vocabulary just in case.

I'm more in the area of the Agnostic. I believe there's something out there but not in the degree that others are into. If anything, I think mother nature should be given the credit for godliness. After all, all life did start on her turf!

The atheists question reminds me of the same topic in my debating class. Some guy proudly declared himself as an atheist. So, I asked him, okay,  if you found yourself in the middle of the ocean with no,food, water, supplies, no human help anywhere & clinging on a log? Who do you all for spiritual help? Guy: I call to myself. I told him, you're really b/w a rock & a hard place because you don't believe in anything, you call for help to yourself to get you out of that mess? You'd have better luck calling to the sharks to end your miserable situation. Ya, I won the debate, hand down!

If you are an atheist, then...what do you believe in?

Things that make sense?

::)  Um, why does this situation require a "call for spiritual help"?  And what is a "call for spiritual help" going to do?  Absolutely nothing, that's what.  "God" is not going to magically transport you out of your situation to some 5 star resort.  If a boat happened to come any time after one did a so called "call for spiritual help", it would merely be the state of life...it isn't unusual for boats to frequent the ocean, now is it?

Really, tantricia, I'm disappointed in you for claiming to be agnostic, yet still clinging to such wild, unfounded, and primitive thoughts such as this.

A mere human can not magically transport themselves out of a desperate situation to some 5-star resort but God can.  I know because it wasn't that long ago that I was in a desperate situation.  I had done everything I could think of to change it.  I was "clinging to a prayer" and God came through.  The 5-star resort He provided has been the "perfect job" in a small shop, close to where I live.  I get to help the people in my neighborhood, plus there's no constant supervison (no nagging boss).   I have a job where I am having so much fun that I can't believe I get paid for this.  (The shop has been in the neighborhood for over 20 years, they've NEVER hired anyone from "off the street" before.)

"It's not unusual for boats to frequent the ocean" but for the boat to find someone at just the right time and "rescue them" when they NEVER have before...it IS unusual for a boat like that to frequent the ocean.
