tv ratings

It amazes me how the tv industry bases so much on ratings.  While on one hand yes if a show has little ratings the sponsers won’t back the program so the tv companies need a certain raiting but what gets me is that a show that has say a 3.5million view rating on say CW or a cable channel like TNT is great while that same rating on like CBS will get the show cancelled.  I realize tv companies like CBS have to maintain a certain standing but come on!  Audiences like me can only stand so many NCIS shows and no more.  Sericously NBS don’t you think it’s time to create something other than Law&Order?
